For dramatic TV effect will the Mitch supporters in Congress be on their knees as they discuss the gun rights restrictions?

"Conservatives, make this offer to the Liberals in Congress. We will accept expanded background checks for any new gun purchasers. In exchange, we will do the exact same background check for anyone who crosses our border."

No Deal here. Why on earth would we want to give away our constitutional rights in a vain attempt to force the federal government to do a job its actually supposed to be doing.

Not one letter of gun control, period.

Well, here’s the circular firing squad again. This generation is something else. We are witnessing the consequences of the lack of education in civics. McConnell is making the right moves so far (or non-moves).

“”” They keep saying background checks without naming exactly what they’re talking about. “””

You have to pass the bill to see what’s in it.

"The Senate Republicans are going to need hear from the people who put them in office. Same goes for the President. NO DEALS with our 2A rights. NONE!"

Exactly. Well said. Lead, follow, or get out of the way!

While I am opposed to it and think it is intended to ultimately lead to a registry, the bill passed by the House doesn’t establish any database or registry. It simply requires all transfers, with narrow exceptions, to be made through an FFL, who then handles the transfer the same way he does under current law.

There is no government database of retail gun sales under current law. Records of a passed NICS check must be destroyed 24 hours later, and only records of failed NICS checks may be retained by law. Also, no information on what was transferred or even whether the transfer ultimately occurred is provided to the government. The only record of the transfer is the hard-copy Form 4473 retained by the FFL, which, unless they change it, does not include the transferor’s identity. Thus, the only records would be hard copies spread out among thousands of FFLs.

Again, I’m opposed to it in part because I think it is intended to lead to a registry, but I don’t want anyone losing arguments with anti-gunners due to incorrect information.

Maybe they can finally agree to pass that law making murder illegal.

"Background checks and red flags would probably lead the discussion, but a lot of other things will come up as well. What we can't do is fail to pass something."

I spoke too soon. That's not a good move. We need to contact members of the Senate.

There are web forms at quite a few sites for getting messages to members of Congress. Easy to do.

“When the radio host noted that expanding background checks is supported by roughly 90 percent of Americans”

I would like to him prove that one.

Doug Collins (R-GA) does a good job of explaining how NICS could unintentionally (or intentionally) “lose”/bury a firearm application due to H.R.1112:

And how will this help? The three shooters passed their FBI background checks.

"In exchange, we will do the exact same background check for anyone who crosses our border."

As the law stands so far, once they get to this side of the border, the vast majority of them are released temporarily (catch and release). Those background checks should be done outside of our borders.

Another problem... Most of them by far have clean histories in the U.S., because they haven't lived here before. So they'll pass the checks. If systems are set up in their countries of origin, you can be sure that nearly all of them will pass those, too.

They were caught making backups of the database onto other media prior to the data being destroyed.

Months and months if do nothing congress, suddenly springing into action.... To be fair, I called it. Just like the tome of Obamacare this was written prior to the crisis.
