When they were out to ban handguns, they followed the Nelson “Pete” Shields playbook from 1976 Handgun Control Inc (now the Brady Center).

For semi-auto rifles, something they said they would never ban, they follow the 1988 Josh Sugarmann playbook of confusion.
“ Assault weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons —anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun— can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”-Josh Sugarmann

Trying to stop it with common sense is apparently not working. Looks like it is doing to have to self implode before it can be rebuilt. You touched on an interesting Philosophical concept with mentioning accelerationism.

And there is a problem with the definition that needs to be repaired. While the official ATF definition is what should be referenced to they are not, Merriam-Webster Dictionary has edited and added a dangerous and inaccurate definition that is a falsehood and needs to be removed. It is based on speculation instead of fact and they need to be heavily called out on this. It is an outright lie and an attempt to redefine.

assault rifle- noun Definition of assault rifle :any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire

also : a rifle that resembles a military assault rifle but is designed to allow only semiautomatic fire

Then they double down and make it even worse by redefining incorrectly in the "English learners Dictionary" with this definition:

English Language Learners Definition of assault rifle : a gun that can shoot many bullets quickly and that is designed for use by the military

May I add? Fully-automatic firearms, first introduced in the late 1800s, are those that, after firing a round of ammunition, automatically reload and fire again, performing this sequence repeatedly as long as their triggers are depressed and their ammunition supplies have not been expended. By comparison, other types of firearms -- semi-automatic, bolt-action, lever-action, pump-action, single shot, revolver, double-barrel, etc. -- fire only once each time the trigger is pulled.

And an "Assault Rifle" is one with a "select fire" option that will allow it to fire "full Automatic" as defined above. And ONLY if it can also fire automatic as above can it be defined as an "assault rifle".

Just change the name to something that has no ‘assault’ in it.

Call them Kitten and Puppy rifles, and decorate them with kitty and puppy pictures.

The problem is that these very inaccurate, nonfactual, and deceptive definitions are what the left is using to define and base their argument on. They are attempting to redefine and change perspective through the backdoor with deceptive means and non-fact. And these reference sources need to be called out for it, especially right now...

Know what else? It doesn’t look like the right is doing a very good job of saying the right things to explain and expose this very important and serious difference of definition either. They just keep allowing them to continue the lie and never actually call them out with the true technical detailed facts.

I have 8 or 9 Marlin 60’s, best little rifle made, but it is far from an assault rifle.

An assault rifle has the capability of automatic fire.

They want to ban all semi-autos.

they were expected to appear with weapons supplied by themselves and of the type in common military use at the time. (Presser vs Illinois, Miller)

And the court held that it was OK to ban sawed-off shotguns because they weren’t in common military use.

“They want to ban all semi-autos.”

Sure do, and it is because they have been allowed to redefine “semi-automatic” and “automatic” as being one and the same. This seemingly small difference of definition to the left is actually huge when talking more regulation and I do not see the true level of exposure this deception should be getting.

Yes, we know the definition of “assault rifle”, and know that there are very few out there in civilian hands and that nearly none currently legally owned have been used in crimes. The issue is people applying the terms to other things in order to confuse and deceive the populace.

The state of Washington classified .22LR semiautomatic rifles as “assault weapons”. How ridiculous is THAT??

No, it is all about banning any and all guns that they can succeed in doing.

"Semi-auto fire from an individual non belt fed shoulder firearm is superior to full auto fire for most tactical situations anyway, save for gaining initial fire superiority, suppressive fire, the final stages of an assault, and when firing along final protective lines in a defensive situation."

Which is precisely why they are so hot to ban them.

Somehow this important deception needs to be exposed. And right now is the most critical time. We need some help from our representatives with this one and they are just not sharing the correct talking points concerning this lie like they should be.
