” they’re now getting around the standard definition of ‘assault weapon’, that being select-fire.”

And there is a problem with the definition that needs to be repaired. While the official ATF definition is what should be referenced to they are not, Merriam-Webster Dictionary has edited and added a dangerous and inaccurate definition that is a falsehood and needs to be removed. It is based on speculation instead of fact and they need to be heavily called out on this. It is an outright lie and an attempt to redefine.

assault rifle- noun Definition of assault rifle :any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire

also : a rifle that resembles a military assault rifle but is designed to allow only semiautomatic fire

Then they double down and make it even worse by redefining incorrectly in the "English learners Dictionary" with this definition:

English Language Learners Definition of assault rifle : a gun that can shoot many bullets quickly and that is designed for use by the military
