I served as an armor platoon leader before branch transferring to the military police corps. On the last REFORGER exercise in Germany in 1992, I remember taking my M1A1 up to the crest of a hill in Hoenfels, and then easing over to take a peak at the other side. As soon as I could see over the top of the hill, I saw a Warthog bearing down on me...and while I know it's physically impossible, for a brief second, I swore it was hovering there in wait.
For the purposes of the exercise, I was dead, but in reality, nothing made me happier than knowing those are on our side.
I stood flipping the bird at an A10 pilot as he repeatedly staffed our column. Killed us Killed us.
We should have been mobile. My command screwed up.
Thank God it was practice
