Worse Than Ever: Government Schools After 35 Years

politicized atmosphere of today’s factory-style government-monopoly schools.

...

many students did not understand English grammar

...

Poor preparation, however, was only the tip of the iceberg. Students did not bring books to class, relentlessly complained about homework, and expected high grades regardless of proficiency.

...

A department head had been demoted for teaching at a pre-college level and refusing to lower his standards. Senior teachers were dropping out in disgust.

...

the school embraced grade inflation

...

administrators tacitly urge teachers to lower standards, despite proclaiming the opposite in public. Like the Dodo in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland: “…everybody has won, and all must have prizes.”

Austrian economists.. have explained this behavior. Ludwig von Mises.. noted the human tendency to place a high value on receiving something sooner rather than later. He called it time-preference theory. The desire for immediate gratification with little effort explains the phenomenon of grade inflation.

...

combination of psychological denial and fiscal Stockholm syndrome. In denial, “the faithful” desperately cling to the notion that their elite high-tax district is exceptional despite the data. They cannot admit they have been duped.

And since they cannot escape the fiscal dragnet of this tax-fed monopoly, in a classic display of Stockholm syndrome, they adopt the stance of their captors and cheer all the louder... they are playing the part of the fawning mob in Hans Christian Anderson’s fable, The Emperor’s New Clothes: they pretend that the emperor is wearing splendid garments despite his nakedness.

...

During a presentation about Gutenberg’s moveable-type printing press, a student became upset upon learning that literacy skyrocketed as a result of this invention – not because of public schools. His mother is a teacher.

Trump Derangement Syndrome was widespread among teachers, who frequently vent their political views.

We need vouchers the parents can use in any school they want. That would break the union strangle hold, which is why the unions spend millions to oppose vouchers at any cost.

Homeschool. Your kids; your responsibility or cut way back to beans and rice and pay a simple private school to do it.

Never blame public school. Blame the parents for sending their kid there. Get married, stay married.

Who is to blame fore you leaving your kid daily with screwed up institutions? Been screwed up 55 years at least. Nothing nnew or shocking except tge stupidity of parents that want netflix and two cars and two careers.

“revolutionaries” of all sorts, and “progressives”, and anti-everythings need to suppress truth, real facts, relevant information. They need it in order to promote brain-washing propaganda.

today’s factory-style government-monopoly schools.

A government-monopoly would be something like the Post Office. There are fifty states, only one to my knowledge, Hawaii, runs all of the state’s public schools. In the other 49 states there are thousands of independent school districts that a great deal to say what is taught in their schools. Some, no doubt are corrupt and rotten, quite often they are in large urban areas and get a lot of press attention. But many public schools provide excellent educations. It all depends on where you live.

“...but of course I live in lily white wealthy Marin...”

Whoa really?! from what I’ve read, Marin County sounds like a giant refuge of Marianne Williamson types - politically and personally

How can you stand it? I used to live in Ilhan Omar’s district in Minnesota and that was nutso - but nowhere near as bad as Marin County, I’d think.
