Denmark has approximately the population and GDP of the Atlanta metro area, as a side note. What a tiny European nation can afford, and what a continent-spanning nation can afford, are obviously two very different things.
The $600 million that the Danes pay in Greenland subsidies comprises less than one half of one percent of their total budget. I think they can afford it.
They’re spending that and still don’t have a proper airport, and probably a lot of other things.
There are fewer than 60,000 people there. How many airports do they need? My own airport in Kansas City handles more passengers in two days then there are people in Greenland.
