Comey pushes back on ex-Overstock CEO claims: 'The FBI doesn't work that way
Washington Examiner ^ | Aug 23, 2019 | Caitlin Yilek

Former FBI Director James Comey denied claims made by Patrick Byrne, the former CEO of Overstock, about the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Byrne has claimed to multiple news outlets, including the Washington Examiner, that the FBI directed him to rekindle a romantic relationship with Maria Butina, the Russian gun rights activist who admitted in December to conspiring with a senior Russian official to infiltrate conservative American political circles.

The orders came from then-FBI agent Peter Strzok and top officials in the Obama administration, including Comey, Byrne has alleged without providing evidence.

Comey called the allegations “ridiculous.” "The FBI doesn't work that way," Comey told CNN on Thursday.

Both a lawyer for Strzok and the FBI have declined to comment to the Washington Examiner.

Byrne, 57, revealed in July he had a sexual relationship with Butina after she approached him at a libertarian convention in Las Vegas in July 2015. Byrne said he held a low-level security clearance at the time and reached out to the U.S. government for approval to get to know Butina.

The FBI isn't supposed to work like that.

Who guards the guardians?

The FBI doesn’t work.

Should be disbanded.

Well, Byrne has definitely said some wild things.

But I wouldn’t trust Comey to paint a fence.

Now how Comey and Strzok used their positions for partisanship, that’s pretty obvious.

Maybe the REGULATIONS say you are not supposed to operate that way, but then, there have been a GREAT number of what appear to be infractions of those regulations, individuals going over, under or around the legal requirements, and doing their own interpretation of the law.

So there is where it starts getting sticky. Like being caught in a dangling strip of flypaper, a number of people are subject to capture and can only hang helplessly and attempt to extradite themselves from from their captivity. But the machinery of government grinds on mercilessly, capriciously passing over some and placing an inordinate burden on others. And once tarnished, few if any ever get back their reputations or capital net worth, while others of the protected class multiply their fortunes sometimes many times over.

The Famous But Incompetent have expedited both of these outcomes to an extraordinary degree.

From the guy that withheld key evidence from his investigators to protect HRC and then submitted 3 fraudulent warrant applications to the FISC thereby violating innocent Americans of their constitutional rights to privacy. The civil lawsuits coming the coup plotters way are going to be massive.

Yes, here’s a video of an FBI office.

I don’t see anybody texting?

I believe that is what they do all day!

Or is the flamer an unfortunate, whose phone caught fire?

Byrne made an astounding claim on Martha McCallium’s show. She didn’t pick up on it, unfortunately, and so there was no followup question from her.

He said, after describing his relationship with Butina, that he “set up X, Y, and Z for some felony charges.”

He claimed X, Y, and Z were higher ups, higher than Strzok, in fact. I suspect Comey is one of those.

Should be interesting to see how this plays out. He also said he’s passed everything along to AG Barr.

“I suspect Comey is one of those.”

Later on when on CNN and pressed he stated that Comey was Z.

Mr. Comey did not not prove the FBI doesn't work this way.

The FBI and CIA both need to be scattered to the wind. We don’t need them. We have the US Marshal service and Military Intel can handle the CIA stuff.

Is it possible that this guy is in cahoots with the Clinton’s and is trying to put the spotlight on others in order to keep it off from the Clinton’s? These days one has to look at all the possibilities.

Additionally, on Dan Bongino’s podcast today, he talked about this and said that he had been sitting on this story for a while and knows more but can’t say more because of his source(s).
