The increase in fires burning in Brazil set off a storm of international outrage last week. Celebrities, environmentalists, and political leaders blame Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, for destroying the world’s largest rainforest, the Amazon, which they say is the “lungs of the world.”

Forests burn. They all do. And if you stop them from burning, they burn hotter in the future. Forest generally burn undergrowth leaving the taller trees. But forests that have been saved from burning will eventually burn. And when they do, they will burn hotter, killing all the tall trees. So, leave the Amazon alone. Its doing what it should do, burn.

Doo-doo-doo, da-da-do-do-wow!
There's a place called the rainforest that truly sucks ass
Let's knock it all down and get rid of it fast
You say 'save the rainforest', but what do you know?
You've never been to the rainforest before!

Getting Gay with Kids is here
To tell you things you might not like to hear
You only fight these causes 'cos caring sells
All you activists can go .... yourselves.

Someday if we work hard boys and girls..
There'll be no more rainforests left in the entire world..
Getting Gay with Kids is here
To spread the word, and bring you cheer
Getting Gay with Kids is here
Lets knock down the rainforest, whaddaya say?
Its totally gay, it's totally gay.

"Each year, the Rainforest is responsible for over three thousand deaths from accidents, attacks or illnesses. There are over seven hundred things in the Rainforest that cause cancer. Join the fight now and help stop the Rainforest before it's too late."

The majority of oxygen produced (up to 90%) is by plankton, this includes algae and a plethora of other organisms you probably have never heard of. The Amazon serves as a scapegoat for environmentalists, being anything the zeitgeist at the time necessitates it to be. Coccolithophores, ever heard of that beautiful creation? Just another toy in the evolution heresy.....

A basic fact of nature...of forestry. Yet so many leftists want to fight nature and prevent ALL fires. Little do they know that some plants actually rely on fires to spread seed, in addition to what you point out about underbrush.

Another aspect that the enviro-wacko's have no idea about.

While it's probably closer to 70 or 80%, it is true that the organisms of the oceans provide for FAR more of the earth's oxygen than the rainforests or other sources. [1][2]

I was in college and we went for a ski weekend. In our group there was this gorgeous Brazilian girl, Claudia, who everybody wanted to $&#&.

She was so funny and pretty.

All weekend we talked about a lot of stuff, having a great time. We were driving along and at the time Sting from the music group Police was in the habit of trundling around some poor old rainforest Indian guy, more or less Sting’s paid decorative toy, and somehow he made all that virtue signalling so much more real, all gussied up in his arrow-through-the-nose and lip clacker thingy, you know..?

It was all the rage then to profess worry about the Rainforest, and about how in just 10 minutes it was going to be all gone, forever. And we all regretted this as the rainforest really belonged to the WHOLE WORLD not just Brazil, and..

She went NUTZO..!

Claudia —who had been pleasant and funny at all other times- was screaming at all of us, about how that was all BS, and the rainforest absolutely did belong 100% to Brazil.

And that we all should shut-up and that we had no idea what we were talking about.

It was really weird and awkward after that but in not so many years later I have to admit I agreed with Claudia.

And now I COMPLETELY agree with her.

It’s really annoying when other people say your stuff really belongs to THEM, especially when it’s Hollywood Showbiz people doing it, as they are wont.

Excellent article and post!

This fellow Nepstad sounds halfway sensible, at least on this topic. For example:

Nepstad argued that it would be a no-brainer for governments around the world to support Aliança da Terra, a fire detection and prevention network he co-founded which is comprised of 600 volunteers, mostly indigenous people, and farmers.

“For $2 million a year we could control the fires and stop the Amazon die-back,” said Nepstad. “We have 600 people who have received top-notch training by US fire jumpers but now need trucks with the right gear so they can clear fire breaks through the forest and start a backfire to burn up the fuel in the pathway of the fire.”

Now, that's very interesting from a number of angles. For one, even for Brazil, I'd think $2 million a year would be chump change.

This would also represent an interesting opportunity: President Trump could announce a Go Fund Me or similar campaign to raise the $2 million the 1st year, with him offering to match up to a reasonable figure, say, 1/4 of his Presidential salary for the year, the highest donation made by a high profile lib. (Aliança da Terra would have to document where the funds went to receive continuing support.) Then send out regular tweets documenting progress, and notable donations (with thanks). This would do some actual good, and flummox President Trump's opposition to no end.

For those who have been following politics in Brazil, it’s obvious what’s going on. Their new leader, Hair Bolsonaro, LOVES TRUMP, and that simply cannot be permitted.

So when their former leader, the guy who destroyed their country, Lula, was overseeing the ‘destruction of the rain forest’, it wasn’t a problem.

Bottom line is that the Left simply WILL NOT PERMIT people, whether they are Americans or foreign leaders, to be friendly with Trump...and with that, they do their best to isolate leaders who would or might otherwise be friendly with us (think Brazil, Israel, or even Russia)...and this needs to be STOPPED!

On reflection, perhaps I should have said “excellent post and informative article, said article flawed by some major errors.”

For example, numbnutz author apparently blames droughts on “climate change”, but unless he is referring to past or speculated current or future cooling, he has it backwards. In any scenario not FAR beyond the amount of carbon humans could ever burn on Earth, a warmer planet Earth is generally a wetter planet. And, specifically:

https://www.nature.com/articles/nature20787

Note that the data presented (actual climate records, not modeling) utterly blow up the models the alarmists use to predict dire droughts from warming (not to mention pointing out the natural cycles of precipitation and temperature.)

Yup. Just like the issue of illegals' kids being separated from their parents.

Bolsonaro was apparently not deterred even by getting knifed in the gut while campaigning. Maybe he needs to send a video statement such as the below to all pertinent parties giving him grief:

(Oh, I know, a fictional character, but, still, I never tire of posting that scene!)
