It's a fair point to debate, though there are clearly some issues that have national scope/implications that the Founders could not have foreseen - an automotive industry being one, air travel being another.

I believe it's reasonably arguable that having national standards for vehicle quality, construction, safety/amenities (e.g., seat belts), and performance makes sense from a practical point of view since there aren't 1,000 different vehicle manufacturers scattered around the country. Using the Interstate Commerce clause to make this happen feels like a reach to make that happen, but we've seen worse abuses of that principle.
