Voting on Brexit was in an advisory referendum, not a constitutional general election

By “a referendum” what Cameron means is that the British people will not be offered the option of a hard Brexit, only a carefully controlled choice between Remain and Unacceptable. This is only the illusion of democratic government - the ruling class there, as here, has no intention of offering their polity the real thing.

“Voting on Brexit was in an advisory referendum, not a constitutional general election”

You mean, it was unconstitutional?

The British government okayed an illegal referendum?

Okay, okay, if I thought you had an ounce of logic between your ears, I would ask you exactly why the election was held if it meant absolutely nothing, and why there is such an uproar about it if it meant absolutely nothing.

However, you seem to be bereft of logic, so I won’t ask the question.

The issue I see with a second referendum is that if it is held and The brits wish to stay after all in the EU, the EU might still try to “sanction Britain” in some way to ensure they will “never try that again, or else!”

The EU strikes me as petty like that!

I mean it was not in the consitution.

Referenda were always viewed suspiciously by Britain as an instrument that only fascist powers like Mussolini’s Italy or Hitler’s Germany used.

The British government okayed an advisory, non-binding referendum.

Are you kidding? The mood in the EU is “Britain, please leave. We were sorry to see you go until March 2019 but now we want you to leave quickly. Just go. We’re sorry for the people there, but you are drama queens. Bye”

It was enough to cause Article 50 to be triggered.

Sounds pretty binding to ne.

that was a simple trading block, not what the EU became. I know because I lived there at the time

no, the EC was NOT a simple trading block.

The EC had as its defininig statement in 1957 "ever closer union"

In the 1950s France, Germany and the Benelux countries formed the EEC (precursor to the EU) with the EXPLICIT statement of “ever closer union”
At the same time the UK and the Scandinavian countries formed the EFTA - a free trade union

By the 1960s the UK economy was in a shambles and the EFTA was way, way behind the EU economically.

So the UK decided to dump the EFTA and join the EU.

This was first rejected by de Gaulle.

Then the UK begged again to join when De Gaulle left and they joined in 1972

in 1975 the UK had a referendum on whether it should stay in the “ever closer union”

67% of the British voted to be part of the “ever closer union” — yes, more than 2/3rds of the British voting public voted to be part of the EEC to be EU

They knew about the “ever closer union” - that was clearly stated as the goal of the EU from it’s inception.

It was a political union from 1957, from before the UK joining.

The UK left a simple trading block to join a block that had the four freedoms and the European court, the UK joined willingly a block with the stated goal of ever closer union.
