The Communist Party is not the equivalent of China. Most of Chinese history predates the Communist regime. Traditional Chinese philosophy like Confucianism was highly respected by Catholic and Protestant missionaries (barring the ancestor worship part), and Christianity is not inconsistent with Chinese culture.
