Highly rigorous and respected Cochrane systematic studies in 2010 and 2012 of chronic pain patients found addiction rates in the 1 percent range, and a report on over 568,000 patients in the Aetna database who were prescribed opioids for acute postoperative pain between 2008 and 2016 found a total “misuse” rate of 0.6 percent.
The continued clampdown by the DEA also shows a complete lack of understanding about the nature of addiction.

The answer is simple:
Just make it a Felony for ANY Medical Provider to prescribe, o0ffer to prescribe, or give any opiate of any kind to any Public Employee, Public Servant, or Government Official.
Problem Solved, LET THEM SUFFER FIRST!!!
We should put these guys in charge of absolutely everything.
Food most especially.
That way, the next time we elect someone that they don’t prefer, they can just starve us all to death.
Instead of running all the things we put these children in charge of, they can just stand there and stomp their feet like their doing right now, and we’ll get exactly what we deserve for being so stupid.

Having endured an industrial accident overseas I can safely tell you that European pain management is far better then American medicine. They don’t act like there’s a guy looking over their shoulder with a gun.
So I have a little proposal. Let’s mandate that all DEA agents forego drug treatment for pain. I mean, isn’t that that what they want for the rest of us? Let’s set an example here!
If a few of them go down writhing in agony as their doctor sits helplessly nearby, hands tied, well...it’s for the good of the Republic, the body politic. Let them lead by example.
And if not, and if they are terrified by that prospect, then they can get out of the doctor’s offices. There are a tiny few who “overprescribe” and the state medical boards can handle them on complaint.

I don’t know what the solution is. The reality is the Govt IS the economy these days. The Government IS the central authority. There is no place in our society where the Federal Government is not and I have looked long and hard. There are some places where there is less government and more freedom such as the rural areas. Freedom is a relative term.
The only way that is changed is How?
There was a movement back to state rights for awhile until we got our man in central authority. Trump is removing much regulation as fast as he can.
Deregulation is not a perfect solution, it just moves the evil to another place, that is the nature of man. I would rather have evil diversified into local community than centralized. This all started with the local evil government, needed to be controlled by the county or state which then also became evil.
People were once ruled by an internal, moral, civil, religious code, but it is not there any more. Actually that may be an aberration, not the norm if we look thru history.
And then there is Adam Smiths INVISIBLE HAND which may be at work.
God’s historical solution is to let his people be captured and carried away and start over with a remnant........
Having unelected apparatchiks decide which pharmaceuticals are “OK” and which are not, and how much of each is “allowed” is antithetical to a free people’s choice.
The DEA is another rogue agency that has far overstepped its bounds and must be reined in soon. Its overreach has affected other nations as well.
Our state has a website that licensed physicians can use to check what prescriptions patients have had filled. Before my retirement fully one third of new patients that came to me were straight up drug seekers who were getting prescriptions filled by multiple doctors. No question. What to do? IMHO, legalize everything. If patients want help with choosing a medication and managing treatment let them see a doctor. If they want to manage their own drug use, let them. In many foreign countries that is how it has worked.

According to AMA, a person who is completely “dependent” upon opioids, to the point they risk death upon cold turkey withdraw, is not addicted.
As long as the meds are prescribed by a doc.

Why do we need the DEA? I though the job of the FDA was to verify the effectiveness of medicine, drugs and the purity of food. What does the DEA actually do that actually benefits the American People?
If we didn’t have the DEA, this country would be flooded with drugs of all kinds that anyone could get at a reasonable price.
Oh wait...
This is the same mentality as “Gun Control.” Blame the guns, blame the pills, but never prosecute the real criminal abusers. The result is persecution of the legal purchaser, while the criminals are protected as prospective Democrat voters.
They have to have someone to pick on and if there’s nothing there, they’ll have their informants set people up. Now, some will protest “how dare you question our brave men and women of the federal police forces, we can’t question their integrity!” Well they’re right, we can’t because they operate in secret for the most part. Eventually even the agents, legislators, prosecutors and judges will realize that they or a family member will develop an untreatable painful condition. We know that they will suffer. Over time, things have a way of evening out.
