Guns and Cannabis: The Insidious Creep of Tyranny
americanthinker.com ^ | 10/11/2019 | John Klar

Posted on 10/11/2019 7:41:28 AM PDT by rktman

In 2004, Vermont implemented a medical marijuana registry, promising patient confidentiality on its state website. Then, in 2018, Vermont legalized recreational marijuana use and imposed a universal background check on gun-purchasers.

Here's the rub: the federal government was not consulted, and the ATF maintains that anyone using marijuana will be denied clearance to purchase any gun. This was already the case prior to Vermont's recreational cannabis legalization — those who were on the state's marijuana registry were not allowed to buy guns from federally licensed dealers, as the state of Vermont provided the list of registrants surreptitiously to the federal government. Yet those on the cannabis registry could still purchase guns from neighbors — that is, until the vaulted "universal background check" closed that "loophole" for sick people to defend themselves. All without public discussion, or even awareness.

Liberals have been chiseling away at our rights for many decades. They have eroded the gun rights of sickly Vermonters, and no one even knows it. They have eliminated the Confederate flag that Lynyrd Skynyrd used as a symbol of rebellion. That flag is permitted only one meaning now: slaveholder. Soon, the American flag may be permitted only one meaning — the one they impose, the one that calls for its universal removal. Soon, MAGA hats will be joined by other symbols deemed offensive to the P.C. McCarthyites.

Like it says in sub paragraph 12 of the 2nd amendment? LOL!

Yeah, the founding fathers must have envisioned gun owners who like to take LSD, magic mushrooms, and other hallucinogenic drugs when they wrote that sub paragraph. /s

But this has become a liberal enclave... it is uncommon to find people like my wife and I who were born and raised here. We have been invaded.

People move from one state to another all the time - it's part and parcel of American liberty.

These marijuana businesses destroy any neighborhood that they are allowed to locate in.

You've personally visited every one of those businesses?

as usual the rights of hard working decent folks are trampled to make way for the rights of the worthless scum of society.

So you think the majority that voted in legalization is composed of bums looking for cars to break in to?

I am glad that at least we know whose side you are on in this fight.

The side of liberty for all adults.

The Founders knew of many mind-altering drugs, such as alcohol and opium. If you think their Second Amendment needs revision, get a new amendment passed.

You just trashed the Second Amendment, gun-grabber.

Apperantly you are either not familiar with the concept of analogy or you are intentionally acting like you are stupid. Anology, “a process of arguing from similarity in known respects to similarity in other respects”. Even if I had not read numerous accounts from people currently living in Colorado... some of them on Free Republic... after seeing what it has done first hand to the communities that I live in and visit... it is very easy to see what happens in every situation that I am familiar with. So use your smarmy routine somewhere else. Smarmy, “ingratiating and wheedling in a way that is perceived as insincere or excessive.”

Anti-Constitutionalists just reinterpret the problematic sections, like the natural born citizen clause.
No need to pass amendments.

You are a riot! You believe that guns are not already taken away and never given back to drug addicts and psych when we showed up at calls? I once had a naked psycho point a semi-automatic pistol at me and pull the trigger several times after he called 911 and told them he was having a heart attack. Fortunately he had put the bullets in the magazine backwards. I doubt whether that clown got the gun back.

You won’t find a single example of me trashing the Second Amendment. However, I found one of you doing just that, gun-grabber.

So by sharing the medical data with the feds, they violated HIPPA Laws.

Sue the state for everything it has.

Who knows...But only a fool or someone with an agenda would deny alcohol is directly related to epic widespread violence, abuse and assault...which has gone on forever...This is certainly no secret.

Too bad, you are in violation of Federal Law. Pass directly on to Federal Prison.

Shall not be infringed. Like I said, your move.

I have no use for casual drinkers, That kind of idiocy is certainly grounds for prohibiting their ownership of firearms. Let them choose between alcohol and guns.

I've seen accounts, some on FR, stating the opposite - and you probably have too, but didn't find them congenial ... "con·fir·ma·tion bi·as is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that affirms one's prior beliefs or hypotheses."

Gun-grabbing and the War on Drugs go hand in hand.

One thing your dog and I have in common is that we don’t side with the BATF against the Second Amendment. Can’t say the same for his owner.
