Sondland to tell Congress 'no quid pro quo' from Trump: report
The Hill ^ | 10/12/19 | John Bowden

President Trump's ambassador to the European Union (EU), Gordon Sondland, plans to tell Congress this week that a text he sent denying understanding of quid pro quo between Trump and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky in a July phone call in July was dictated by Trump himself.

The Washington Post reported Saturday that a source familiar with the ambassador's planned testimony told the newspaper that Sondland plans to testify that Trump told him in a phone conversation to tell the acting ambassador to Ukraine that he didn’t “want a quid pro quo … didn’t want anything from Ukraine" in exchange for military aid.

Regarding whether that is actually true, the person said, Sondland will not take an opinion, and instead will tell lawmakers that he worked at the direction of President Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, to secure a statement from Ukraine's government confirming a criminal investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden.

Trump and his allies have defended their efforts to persuade Ukraine to launch the investigating by insisting that the White House did not order the Pentagon to hold up millions of dollars in military aid to the country on the condition of an investigation being launched.

Saturday night news dump.

PS: Be sure to watch Meet the Press. Watching an infuriated Chuck Todd is must see TV.

He'll likely ignore everything Trump said about him but he'll be seething.

Washington Post makes this a bad thing.....

“Sondland plans to tell lawmakers he has no knowledge of whether the president was telling him the truth at that moment. “It’s only true that the president said it, not that it was the truth,” said the person familiar with Sondland’s planned testimony, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive diplomatic matters.”

Well the transcript confirms there was no quid pro quo, regardless if President trump instructed him to relay that to others. So his testimony will be taken by the press as an evil assertion by President Trump, but all is shows is that President trump was not offering a quid pro quo as is being claimed.

What a stupid thing to say. He should have just said the president said no quid pro quo and left it at that.

Why would he work "at the direction of President Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani"? Giuliani is Trumps personal lawyer, Sondland is way overstating that.

In other words, this unnamed source is just pulling facts from his ass and doesn’t know for sure what Sondland is going to say.

Nothing impeachable. Democrats have a big fat zero.

There is nothing there that rises to the level of an impeachable offense. Time to move on.

“...to secure a statement from Ukraine’s government confirming a criminal investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden.”

Asking a foreign government to investigate a presidential candidate is precisely what Hillary and Obama did to Trump. So, the democrats are damning themselves when they pursue that line.

As long as he sticks with no quid pro quo, the details don’t really matter.
