A softball Politico story on this does acknowledge that Biden lied about the truck driver, but sort of offers in his defense that he might have "heard rumors" about the truck driver. It links to the 2009 blog post of a first responder named Lou Angeli, who was at the accident scene that day in 1972 and has since passed away himself.

Anyway, if you read the blog post, you discover that Angeli was around 18 or 19, and he responded to the scene despite the fact that he was off-duty and so wasn't supposed to. There was no evidence that the truck driver, who had the right-of-way, was drunk, except that according to Angeli's recollections, the first responders assumed or believed that he was drunk, and forever after, according to Angeli, when any of them happened to meet Biden, they spoke about the accident in that way. Angeli also basically argued that there wasn't proof to rule out that the truck driver had been drunk. And, Angeli had been a volunteer for Biden's Senate campaign who had worked personally with the candidate and his wife.

a truck driver involved in a fatal collision would 95% chance of being tested for alcohol /drugs need to see accident report or was that covered up by biden influence?
