Gov. Gavin Newsom wants investigation of state's high gas prices
ABC7 ^ | 10-22-2019 | AP

California's governor has asked the attorney general to investigate why the state's gas prices are so high, pointing to a new report suggesting big oil companies are "misleading and overcharging customers" by as much as $1 per gallon.

Name brand retailers - including 76, Chevron and Shell - often charge more because they say their gasoline is of higher quality. But a new analysis from the California Energy Commission could not explain the price difference, concluding "there is no apparent difference in the quality of gasoline at retail outlets in the state."

The commission said California drivers paid an average of 30 cents more per gallon in 2018, with the difference getting as high as $1 per gallon in April of this year. The result is California drivers paid an additional $11.6 billion at the pump over the last five years.

"There is no identifiable evidence to justify these premium prices," Newsom wrote in a letter to Attorney General Xavier Becerra. "If oil companies are engaging in false advertising or price fixing, then legal action should be taken to protect the public."

Becerra's office said in an email it had received Newsom's request and "will handle accordingly."

Newsom is clueless. Boutique blends by county and season, in addition to taxes. The assshole should drive across the state line into Nevada and discover what reality is in the real world.

The roads are crap and this jerk diverts funds to housing, feeding and educating ILLEGAL ALIENS. I HOPE HE BURNS IN HELL FOR ETERNITY.

Gavin’s chauffeur at the Shell station holding the gas nozzle handle while gassing up his ultra luxurious heavy limo:

“Governor, please let me shut off the idling engine while I put in gas or I’ll never get it to stay full.”

When a person - NOT in CA-CA land - fills up his/her gas tank, gasses escape from the fuel filler (where the gas cap goes) as the liquid gasoline enters the tank.

These gasses are, by law, captured and sucked into a filtering/collector in CA-CA land instead of just escaping.

Filters cost money to change, vacuum pumps need to be kept working. CA-CA has heavy fines for non/improper compliance.

Why is fuel so expensive?

REGULATION!

Gov. Gavin Newsom wants investigation of state's high gas prices

Let's see now, what could the answer be? California's gas taxes and surcharges add over $1 to each gallon of gas, so maybe that?

I suspect that he’s simply trying to buy time with this ‘investigation’. After all, rising gasoline prices are LOVED by Leftists.

He is reason No. 1. Nutcase Newsom is probably the most corrupt person ever to be governor of CA. Even Brown was better which has been demonstrated this year when Nutcase Newsom signed a bunch of bills into law that even Brown had vetoed while governor.

I see gas stations in other states advertising prices under $2.50 per gallon while Californians are paying over $4 per gallon for regular. Why? Two big reasons are that CA has raised the gas tax starting last year, and each year the tax will increase as the cost of living percentage increases. Plus, CA charges sales tax on gas, including applying the sales tax on top of the gas tax.

The second reason is that CA requires gas refined to higher levels than the rest of the US. That means that gas cannot be imported from other states any time one or more CA refineries are taken off line. Even more absurd is that it is near impossible to build new refineries in CA due to its wacko environmental requirements.

Summing it all up, Nutcase Newsom is a POS. If not for our old age, after having lived in CA for nearly 50 years, we would be moving elsewhere. When I moved here, Ronald Reagan was governor and it was a great place to live for quite a few reasons. Now, the only reason to live here is that most of this state has the best climate of any US state.

And we already know Becerra will blame the oil companies and not the multiple requirements for various blends California demands to cut emissions for the high prices. The refineries have to recalibrate to meet their requirement sis that cost money. They want it for free.

If their ignoramuses aren't careful, the oil companies will stop delivering gasoline to these ingrates who cause the high prices with all of their climate change regulations.

Instead of having high gas prices, they will have no gas at all.

Anytime the government mandates price controls on products, the supply dries up and the price goes up even further.

But then Econ 101 has never been the forte of democRATS.

Maybe Newsom can take some advice from one of the state's highly intelligent congresswoman, Maxine Waters, when she let slip in a federal congressional hearing on high gas prices, that she would just "socialize" the oil companies.

What a bunch of bozos.

TWO WEEKS AGO GOV NUIISANCE REDIRECTED 50 BILLION FROM GAS TAXES FOR NON-ROAD RELATED ITEMS.

He cancelled an additonal lane on 99 south of Fresno and the High Desert Fwy from Victorville to Palmdale.

The Government makes much more off a Gallon of Gasoline (and Diesel) than the People who actually produce the Products.

Too many gasoline blends and other high costs you mention contribute to the high gasoline prices.

But state gasoline taxes per gallon are by far the highest in the nation.

The state makes more per gallon from their self-imposed gasoline taxes than the oil companies make.

Don't these bozos know their own state?

Everybody else in the country knows why their gasoline prices at the pump are so high but the leaders of the state don't have a clue?

Newsom knows that, he is playing dumb to placate the voters (Which is his entire political platform). What should be happening is citizens saying out loud “Who was stupid enough to vote for this Pied Piper?” and proceed to shame them that said yes because they are the problem, not Newsom (Because they will always be perpetual "Newsoms" on the horizon).

Our high gas costs are way more than just taxes. Yes, we have the highest gas taxes, but we have California only formulations. The refiners gouge us for having a single formulation nobody else in the country uses. Then add in ethanol. Is it any wonder our gas is so expensive? Like a full $1 higher than many other states. Our gas tax is only $0.40 higher than most states, so that is a huge contribution but doesn’t explain the full buck.
