A communist whore who’s seen the elephant and didn’t like it much might be exactly what’s needed to withstand the storm of opposition these withdrawals will definitely entail. She’s seen war up close. Of course they’re going to oppose her; she’s a communist whore. And being a veteran gives her the cred to withstand the opposition. Everyone has their uses.

The results were the election of 1948, won against all odds against Henry Wallace, Strom Thurmond and the aforesaid Dewey. Moral of the story: Use people of different ideological stripes, and then discard them.
