A year after his swearing in as the central inspector general for the 17-agency intelligence community, Michael Atkinson laid out details of how the IC’s new Center for Protected Disclosures is functioning.
In the latest semiannual report covering the IG’s work from October 2018 to March 2019, his newly assembled team described the center—which was announced in the semi-annual report released last fall—as focusing on three functions:
“ this spring’s directive by ODNI Director James Clapper is what is hailed by Meyer’s boss, Intelligence Community Inspector General I. Charles McCullough III, for implementing “ground-breaking IC-wide policy that ensures security clearance decisions are protected from reprisal for intelligence community employees and contractors who make lawful disclosures.”
“ During their first hours controlling the House in the 116th Congress, Democrats on Jan. 3 and Jan. 4 pushed through an array of single-chamber rules changes that included creation of a long-sought Office of the Whistleblower Ombudsman.”
