Re poliuce bombing of fortified, armed ungovernable occupants:

Why Have So Many People Never Heard Of The MOVE Bombing? (click here)

Excerpt:

"After my stories last week on the 30th anniversary of the MOVE siege in West Philadelphia in 1985, in which Philadelphia police dropped a bomb on a residential neighborhood, leaving 11 dead — including five children — we were surprised by how many people told us they'd never heard of the bombing."
(I watched this on local TV as it was developing, back in 1985.)

I'd heard of this even though I lived out west in Arizona at the time. It didn't sound right to me for the city to blow up the houses and cause so much collateral damage, killing those folks who were innocent residents, especially the children and burning down a whole block of homes.

But this incident in the FR thread was just about as appalling on a smaller scale. No one was killed but they police were chasing a SHOPLIFTER for Christ's sake. Yes, he was armed but he was holed up in the house and they could have waited him out before he did any harm to anyone.

Like I said, this is not acceptable in the US. I hope the homeowner wins on appeal to the SC.
