I’m reminded of a scene from a movie Michael York was in about Germany after WW!. He was talking to a neighbor who said some outlandish falsity about German Jews. He asked her where she got such lies and she responded matter-of-factly, “From the Volkische Beobachter, of course”. Her excuse was that she was an old lady who had a narrow world view and prob. limited alternative news sources; a former ambassador has no such excuse.
In other words,

This is an even more ridiculous example of “circular evidence” than what we saw when the FBI was planting stories in the media and then using them to justify FISA warrants on U.S. citizens.

And then we find out later that the corroboration was from reading the story in the news?

gee, where have we heard before, that NYT was the sole source of info provided, of course, by “unnamed sources” (deep state propagandists) ??? Seems to have been a common theme these past 3 years.
