How far can a political staff prop up a figurehead? Pretty far - Patty Murray’s team has kept the ball rolling for their figurehead since ‘93 despite Patty not having a detectable brain wave the entire time. RGB staggering around like a character from a George Romero movie would be nothing new.

Why are they doing it? (pursuing a losing impeachment)Here's why - SCOTUS:
- Start impeachment hearings.
- Have the formal vote to impeach.
- Ruth Bader Ginsburg steps down. The clock is ticking anyway.
- Claim that the President should not nominate a replacement while under impeachment.
- Force McConnell to hold a trial, complaining that a motion to dismiss when a SCOTUS nomination is at stake is wrong.
- Demand that the Senate cannot move on the SCOTUS nomination until they resolve the impeachment trial.
- Use whatever outcome happens in the Senate to bash Trump and Republicans in the 2020 campaign.
- Harris, Booker, Klobuchar will use the Judiciary Committee hearings as a campaign platform to bash Trump.
By first having the impeachment trial in the Senate, and then having a SCOTUS nomination hearing in the Senate, the Democrats will control the Senate agenda and MSM news cycle leading up to the 2020 election.
