OK, can someone please explain to me this obsession with Trump’s tax returns?

Three things:

1) he's probably worth less than people think and his foes would love to make hay of that

2) the kooky left will pounce on any of his investments or interests demanding boycotts and everything else that goes with that

3) they'll scream 'conflict of interest' and torture out arcane reasoning why specific interests of his prevent him from considering every piece of legislation that ever comes before him

Based on other stories we’ve seen my best guess is they hope to find discrepancies between some of his federal tax filings and his state tax filings.

You don’t pay taxes on your “net worth”, only the current year’s income.

It’s a “fishing expedition”. It’s an obsession with Trump. They have no idea what they will find. They can “spin” almost anything into something negative.

Tax returns don’t report net wealth anyway

Rubbish, you can’t tell how much someone is worth via tax returns. If you want to know how much he’s worth look at his financials over the course of all his life for all his businesses. That still probably wouldn’t tell you
