LIMA OHIO - Latest Abrams tank version to enter production.
The U.S. Armys newest tank in the summer of 2019 should enter service with the first large unit to use the type.
The Army in late 2017 accepted the very first M-1A2C Abrams tanks. Nearly two years later the service has enough of the new vehicles to equip an entire brigade.

Our old preacher, Dr. Lett Had a PHD from Yale. He had retired from President of a Southern Baptist Seminary and was pastor of our little church in his retirement.
His Son, Dr, Phillip Lett, headed the design team at Chrysler who designed the M-1 Abrams. I saw a show in the History Channel about the Abrams and they interviewed him many times.

I’d like to read the article but The National Interest web site is awful. I get popups over the article text and pictures I can’t even close.
Too bad they’d rather get advertising hits at the expense of viewership.

What’s more likely:
1. They’ll use them against drug cartels coming in from Mexico.
2. They’ll use them in US against citizen uprisings against the federal government.

will be compatible with artificial intelligence that could make the tank more autonomous, the Army stated. Keith Laumer's Bolo will arrive soon!

The Army has acquired around 1,500 M-1A2s and converted most of them to the System Enhancement Package Version 2 standard. The M-1A2SEPv2, which General Dynamics describes as a "digital tank," features high-end computers, a remotely-operated machine gun on the turret and a dozen batteries that allow the tank quietly to operate its sensors without turning on its engine. The M-1A2C in essence is a better-protected M-1A2SEPv2 that's also easier to upgrade. In addition to Trophy and more armor, the new tank boasts more electrical power, better diagnostic systems and a data-link that's compatible with programmable ammunition types that are in development.

The Brief Bolo History... The General Motors Bolo Mark I, Model B, was little more than an upgrade of the Abrams/Leopard/Challenger/LeClerc/T-80-era main battle tank of the final years of the Soviet-American Cold War. (At the time the first Bolo was authorized, GM decided that there would never be a "Model A" or a "Model T", on the basis that the Ford Motor Company had permanently preempted those designations>) Equipped with a high-velocity main gun capable of defeating the newest Chobham-type composite armors at virtually any battle range and with a four-man crew, the Mark I was an essentially conventional if very heavy (150 metric tons) and fast (80 kph road speed) tank in direct line of descent from World War I's "Mother" via the Renault, PzKpf IV, T-34, Sherman, Panther, Tiger, Patton, T-54, M-60, Chieftain, T-72, and Abrams.

For those who don’t know, the military procurement system hit it out of the park with the M1.
It is designed to be up-gradable with many components being plug and play.
Need an upgraded gizmo? Pull out the old one and just slide the new one in it’s place.
Bolt on external reactive armor getting antiquated? Slap on the new and improved model and have a new 2LT check it with a ball-peen to search for dead spots.

Designed in 1970’s and still the MBT for the Army. With refits and upgrades, that is a 50 year old design. Impressive. Kinda like the B-52 for the Army.

Saw my first M1 back in 1980 - I was building engines and they trucked one to the plant and put on a show at the adjacent airfield.

Tanks are ok in Europe and in the desert. They are a bit heavy for Third World bridges.
A tank is only useful if it can get to where the fighting is. We may need to look at much lighter, unmanned vehicles that can fit in narrow places, go over weak bridges, and can be deployed in swarms.

The Army doesn’t retire old Abrams tanks. They reset them to the latest configuration. This has been going on since the M1A1 was produced from scratch.
