The AKC recognizes the Belgian Sheepdog/Shepherd, (Belgian) Tervuren and and (Belgian) Malinois as three separate breeds.
In Belgium, they are considered three coat variations of the same breed, with a fourth, the Lakenois (wirehaired), not yet recognized by the AKC. What the AKC recognizes as the Belgian Shepherd is referred to in Belgium as the Groenendael, and is simply one of the four coat variations.
That doesnt invalidate what I posted.
