You cannot cause the squirrels to suffer. All good people of conscience should support this law. Desensitized cruel people who think they are better than animals need to change.

Apparently because the perps are engaging in interstate commerce. This is from 2016...

Videographer gets 50 years in animal crush videos

Looks like TX has it handled. Maybe other states can't be bothered?

So while deer hunting with a bow I can no longer impale game on arrow shafts?
Possibly not the Intent of the law but some legal bozos will grasp onto wording in the law.

If you end Halal, then kosher has to go as well.

Interstate commerce in animal cruelty videos - hence the otherwise very odd ‘depiction’ wording.

Many good zoos out there saving animals doing poorly in the wild. They are definitely concerned with the quality of life and have been finding new ways to give the animals as close to a real life experience as possible in an enclosure. Zoos have brought back animals from the brink such as the Arabian oryx and the. California condor

The problem can be in the local ‘roadside ‘ zoos with some poor trapped black bear in an 8x8 foot cage or such is used as an attraction to sell trinkets

Why do I have the feeling that this well intentioned law will morph into something that will crush us.

Nancy Pelosi is, in part, behind it. "Well intentioned"? Nancy Pelosi? Never in a month of Sundays.

If only Freepers read more than headlines they’d have a clue:

The PACT Act would prohibit extreme acts of cruelty when they occur in interstate commerce or on federal property and cracks down on sexual abuse of animals. While current federal law bans the sale or distribution of videos showing animals being crushed, burned or tortured, it does not prohibit the underlying conduct.

Law enforcement agencies including the National Sheriffs’ Association and Fraternal Order of Police endorsed the bill, citing a well-documented connection between animal cruelty and violence against people.

The act is limited to interstate commerce and federal property and would not interfere with local animal cruelty laws or enforcement, supporters said.

The left is always saying that people are no different from animals. So a baby is a small animal. Is abortion being criminalized?

I don’t know if the Denver Zoo has improved in the last couple of years, but the tiger exhibit (and area for other cats like the snow leopard) has been awful for decades. Small outside area and the animal(s) was/were constantly pacing. No excuse for that. Hopefully they have revamped.

Good! There is no reason to intentionally torture animals whether they are domestic farm, wild, or pets. Food animals should be killed without torture. People that torture pets should suffer the same. I took a college class on nutrition and one chapter dealt with factory farms. Too many foreign workers and some Americans delight in torturing the animals before they are killed. I think this is where it started.

I stay away from people that don’t like animals, especially if they don’t like dogs. IMO, people that dislike dogs enough to hurt them are not good people. I understand a fear of them but not hatred to the point that they will harm them.
