The late Rep. Elijah Cummings' daughters are backing his longtime aide Harry Spikes in a crowded primary field to succeed him - and not the longtime lawmaker's widow.
Jennifer Cummings, 37, and her sister Adia, 25, both support Spikes, who served on Cummings' staff for more than a decade and who was defeated in a prior primary for the Maryland House of Delegates.
Cummings widow, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, 48, is also seeking the seat, as is Cummings' predecessor, former Rep. Kweisi Mfume, who was one of his oldest friends and is a former leader of the NAACP.
All three of the candidates spoke at Cummings funeral in October, as did his two daughters.

Here we go again. Didn’t Scott Brown teach us that seats are for the people, and not to wanna-be royalty?
This basically shows you how the people have no say in elections in much of the country. Legislative seats just get passed on to family members or key supporters.
How about a Non-crime family
A hereditary peerage?
They need a good Conservative “carpetbagger” to go in and help the folks of Baltimore get off the Liberal’s government plantation society.
Maybe they’ll have a big fist fight like Michael Brown’s family did.

Well, sounds like the kids don’t like the second wife/step-mom.
In any case, it sounds dynastic, sycophantic with a bit of patronage to put either his wife, or his kids, or his aide, in his seat. Put somebody new with new ideas. Preferably someone who loves the Constitution, doesn’t thrive on the public teat and knows that the hell they are doing.
