If the only work Pacino had to his credit was The Godfaher saga, that would have been enough. Other memorable roles include Dog Day Afternoon.

Now compare Robert De Niro to one of his contemporaries, Robert Duvall.

No you can't compare them. Duvall is head and shoulers above De Niro. Duvall has such a wide range and talent, playing everything from Boo Radley in To Kill a Mocking Bird to consigliere Tom Hagen in The Godfather, to the subtle roles like Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies. What a range of talent!

To me, the best thing Duval ever did was as Augustus McCrae in Loneome Dove. Great in Open Range range and as Ned Pepper in the original True Grit. Now those are Westerns but his body of work is just astounding.
