It seems odd that the Social security administration, apparently does not get notified of people’s deaths.
I am sure a lot of this overpayment of benefits happens because benefits are paid electronically and automatically. I heard if a similar case in which the recipient had a joint bank account with her daughter. The daughter just accepted that this money showed up in her account every month and never said anything about it.
So, that means he is also guilty of Bank Fraud.

A few days after my mom passed away, I called the Social Security office to notify the agency. The woman on the other end said, “Oh, we already know that.”
That was about eight years ago.
Its must have been really weird to have been mailing checks out to someone I can only assume might have been pretty old after 25 years.
In every case I know, the funeral home notified SS. And payments stop pronto, while people are encouraged to sign up 6 months in advance to begin collecting.
Social Security does get notified.
When my father and mother passed away all information was automatically submitted on order to cease monthly deposits into their accounts.
I was not under the impression that the SSA sent out checks anymore.

It’s worse if the SSA decides your dead and you aren’t.
They did with my Mom. Either by the funeral home or nursing home where she passed. I was the one dealing with her finances.
