I believe it is a foolish hope to suppose that a "trial" in the Senate would expose Democrat criminal activities.

Yes, it should be obvious by now that the deep-staters will never get their comeuppance for their shenanigans. A dismissal would be the best option.

Wrong. We need a fair process in the Senate. Nothing more. Trump and his legal team will take it from there.

If anyone in DC wonders why Trump has such a huge following, here's your reason. Nobody wants to follow corrupt scoundrels like the leaders of the Democrat Party. And no one wants to follow lily-livered cowards like the leaders of the Republican Party in Congress.

Compared to these slime, Trump looks positively virtuous and heroic.

We aren't going to get a "fair" process in the Senate.

We are going to get back-room deals based upon what benefits individual Senators. Well-reasoned legal arguments have exactly nothing to do with the final outcome. The longer this goes on, the less favorable that outcome will be.

Best to keep it short with a summary dismissal.

I’d be totally surprised if a simple majority of the Senators vote to remover Trump, never mind 67.

There is no requirement for a quorum. A 2/3 majority vote from the Senators present is required to remove the President.

That could be 40 Democrats and five Republicans conducting a hasty vote while the other Republicans are out of town campaigning.

It is a long-shot nightmare scenario, that could only happen if the proceedings drag on into the summer of 2020.

Best to end this as soon as possible.

Which can happen only if McConnell allows it. What are the chances of that?

There is no way this is going to drag out. If McConnell starts the impeachment trial in January then it will be over some time in February.

On one hand I’d say do nothing because it isn’t legitimate, just a continuation of a farce.

On the other let’s have a REAL trial and investigation that delves into all these involved characters. We’re talking everyone from Biden to Hillary to Obama etc. ALL OF THEM played a part in this. It should bleed into discovery details on her emails, the Clinton Foundation, ALL OF IT.

By the time they have to vote on PDJT - there would be few of them left to vote, they’d be in jail.

Are you aware of the fact that President Trump’s judicial nominee choices are guided by the Federalist Society?

Are you familiar with the Federalist Society?

I respectfully disagree. This is Trump’s GOP now. IMO he has various forms of leverage over most if not all problematic GOP senators. Trouble makers like Flake and Corker were pushed into retirement. There are a few wildcards like, for example Romney, but not enough to matter. The rest have learned that their political self interest lies with supporting Trump.

Are you aware of who appointed Harry Blackmun? Anthony Kennedy? David Souter? Etc., etc.

You make a valid point here which I certainly hope is true.

If so, the backroom deals will work out in favor of President Trump and this whole impeachment thing should end very quickly.

Again, the outcome will depend entirely on what the Senators believe is in their political self-interest. The legal arguments presented to the public will be merely decoration.

Mitch is an expert of playing coy. He doubtless has thought this all through and is not about to let things get out of hand...so to speak.

If Trump is removed for no reason, it moves us even closer to revolution.

I want to know why it is PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS are the JURY in an impeachment trial.

Just seems to me it should be voting citizens of the United States.

13 jurors with 5 alternates; all required to take the ISI CIVIC LITERACY test with a passing score of at least a 95%.

We have a pool of about 120 million prospective jurors, you just test random citizens until you have a full jury with with the required test scores.

I want them to have to take the test just to male sure we don’t get any OJ jurors!
