“Austin has been riddled with increasing issues related to homelessness over 2019. Back in June, the Austin City Council passed an ordinance that largely decriminalized sitting, laying or camping in public places.
The changes were met with much criticism and debate, with some saying they exacerbated or exposed already growing problems.”
What is allowed, is what will continue and increase.
The only answer to high Austin taxes then is to MOVE which myself and thousands have.
I heard that real estate prices in Austin have crashed. You can buy a four bedroom house within a mile of downtown for $75,000.
All it took to turn the lovely capital city of Texas into a hobo hangout was having Democrats take over the City Council, now known as the Silly Council. Having an abundance of Communists entrenched at the University of Texas didnt help. Every crazy Leftist notion gets an enthusiastic airing, and now we see the disastrous results: a trashy city with a rising crime rate.
Austin has 7 billionaires and about 600 millionaires and you know that most must be dems:-)
Economics 101
The demand curve for FREE goes to infinity.
Mrs. Warren BUffet gave 17 million to PP. Imagine what 17m would do for the homeless/shelters, etc.
They could buy 20+ used containers and fit them out with bunk beds, say 10 per unit. Along with a community outhouse they’ve taken 200 people off the streets.
Menawhile, liberals throw money at every gofundme they see.
There’s already a solution to homelessness in Austin, and no surprise, it ain’t run by the government. Reported on by “The Best Podcast in the Universe!”

.well, I’ve been involved full time as a broker and developer since 1971 and I have not heard what you are quoting.
More info would be needed to properly answer the question you raise e.g. 1. Which direction from downtown? 2. Square feet?
3. Address is important. Meaning the neighborhood the house is in. 4. How old is the house?
With those answers, I could tell you whether or not what you heard is close or not.
Like you said, thousands are moving out of Austin, far more than would move there. It is a city that is losing population Look at Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo. People move out and property prices tumble.
Okay, so (assuming) there are 1,100 people needing shelter. $50,000 can buy $45 worth of shelter.
Congratulations, you just set up 1,100 people at a Motel 6 for a night.
And with $14mm, you can keep ‘em there for about 2.5 years.
Problem solved? LOL.
