Remember when the Democrats thought money politics was a bad thing? That moral certainty started to crumble when Hillary Clinton outspent Donald Trump by a factor of at least 2, and still went down to defeat. And while vilifying Wall Street makes for good progressive virtue-signaling, the Dems are now the party of plutocrats, buying with welfare and money transfers the support of an underclass kept angry and dependent by progressive policies that hamper job-creation and reward idleness and dependency.
President Trumps tax and regulations cuts have boosted job growth and income at the lower end of the market, imperiling this strategy, but that hasnt stopped the billionaires lusting for power and still welcome in the party. Maya King of Politico writes:
Together, Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg have poured nearly $200 million into television and digital advertising alone, with the former New York mayor spending an unprecedented $120 million in the roughly three weeks since he joined the presidential race. Thats more than double the combined ad spending of every single non-billionaire candidate in the Democratic field this entire year.
Weve never seen spending like this in a presidential race, said Jim McLaughlin, a Republican political strategist who worked as a consultant for Bloombergs mayoral bids in New York. He has a limitless budget. (snip)
Steyer isnt spending at the same stratospheric levels as Bloomberg, yet with $83 million in ad buys so far, hes still far outpacing everyone other than his fellow billionaire. The next highest spender on ads is Pete Buttigieg at $19 million.
Many readers know that political consultants love campaign advertising because they get a percentage of the spend in compensation, often 15%, which really adds up when a budget of $120 million is up for grab. And thats just for 3 weeks.

They should be ashamed of themselves./s
Trump is a billionaire but he knows the value of money. He became President not because of his wealth but in spite of it.
Stupid people who think money can buy them votes or office are going to discover it buys you nothing.
Steyer and Bloomberg will never understand why the American people elected Trump their President.
It was never the money, stupid.
Bloomies FLORIDA ads are a bunch of still photos showing him waving a Fag flag, a supporter carrying a poster with a NRA logo in a circle with a line through it and it ends with a statement that he will Rebuild America.
Which means he is only after votes in liberal-lands of Miami, Tampa-St. Pete and Orlando.
Steyer’s ads claim he will declare a state of emergency on day one. He is supposedly all about climate change and some other liberal talking points. They have been on here, in Wisconsin, seemingly forever. Been seeing Bloombutt’s lately too. Blech!
Pro-Bloomberg VHS tapes were mailed to individual voters. Hes a firm believer in bringing a gun to a knife fight, said Bill Cunningham, a top adviser on the race.
I'm just saying I didn't see or hear about them in Woodside so they probably did NOT go to the 8 million people you claim. BTW, in Astoria, you were probably in Crowley's district at the time also. The Astoria, Woodside, Jackson Hts, Elmhurst, Maspeth neighborhoods were victims of constantly changing district borders.
And the commie warren and socialist Bernie relax in their million dollar homes.
I see his ads here in western pa and dont pay any attention to them. I dont think that the average working stiff is influenced at all by any political ads anymore.
