In Rockland County last night, during a Chanukah celebration at a synagogue a man stormed in with a machete and stabbed at least five victims, who were taken to the hospital. This is the latest in a string of antisemitic attacks in the New York City area, coming in the wake of the tragic killing of four people during an attack on a Jewish grocery store in Jersey City.
These two acts of violence this month have brought renewed attention to the sharp uptick in anti Jewish violence that has quietly held New York City in its grip over the past few years. Sadly, Mayor Bill de Blasio, who spent much of the year more concerned with his farcical run for president than protecting the citizens of his own city, and the state governments of New York and New Jersey have, been flatfooted in addressing the growing concern.
It has frankly been astounding how little attention attacks on Jews in the New York City area have received. If any other minority group were subject to such abuse, it would be a leading national story. Why have these attacks been swept under the carpet? The clearest answer seems to be that the news media and our political leadership are uncomfortable with the fact that many of these attacks, including last nights, were perpetrated by black people.
Make no mistake, if white supremacists in MAGA hats were shooting minorities or carving them up with machetes, it wouldnt just be news, it would be the only news. So satisfying would that narrative be to our politicians and scribes that we would scarcely be able to turn away. But alas, it’s Jews being killed and maimed. And the criminals dont fit the bill of right-wing, Trump-supporting Nazis, so, you know, it’s complicated.
De Blasio, who has ignored this festering problem for years, had this to tweet last night: Horrific, So many Jewish families in our city have close ties to Monsey. We cannot overstate the fear people are feeling right now. I’ve spoken to longtime friends who, for the first time in their lives, are fearful to show outward signs of their Jewish faith.”
Seriously, Bill? You are just realizing this now? Attacks on ultra-Orthodox Jews in Brooklyn have become an almost weekly occurrence under de Blasio. Synagogues and schuls are vandalized regularly, and children and old people are attacked. This is a crisis and has all too often happened throughout Jewish history. It has typically been ignored at best. At worst, the victims are blamed for not fitting in.
Nobody wants to talk about it, but something is going on between the black and Jewish communities in the New York City area that needs to be addressed. The Jersey City shooters were Black Hebrew Israelites; the machete-wielding man who attacked last night was also identified as black. It is time we stop simply wishing that this problem did not exist and address it full on.
For progressives like de Blasio, this is hard to do. The notion that hatred is harbored by some in the black community towards Jews does not comport with their hierarchies of oppression. So rather than deal with the problem, they ignore it. This has to stop. And it has to stop now.
It doesnt matter how uncomfortable the conversation is. The growing tensions between the black and Jewish communities in New York, harkening back to the Crown Heights riots, must be dealt with. This will take real effort, and a commitment from leaders in the black community to educate and eradicate anti-Jewish bias.
Nobody wants to talk about this, but thats just too bad. It has to be talked about before more Jews are killed. There is no bigger story than this in the five boroughs and its adjacent communities. The war on Jews has to be ended. But before it can end, it must first be acknowledged.
Good plan. And the Jews should stop voting democrat
These are all black on white crimes committed by people infused with the notion of "White Privilege." As far as I am concerned, the people who spout such nonsense should be charged with incitement.

The assailant wasn’t using a gun nor was he wearing a MAGA hat...so i suspect this news story will be dropped fairly quickly.
Envy could very well be the basic explanation.
Jews are disproportionately represented in positions of wealth and power. Antisemites believe it to be because of a form of privilege that is setup by the Jewish community, I think its because they tend to be damn smart and have a cultural affinity to being successful. Plenty of antisemites in all walks of life and political leanings. I have seen shades of it here on FR even.
I am not Jewish, but had the honor of growing up with many Jewish friends and families. There is not a greater bunch of people on this Earth
The LEOs and State/City/Fed officials who shrug this crap off and basically let it slide, are complicit in any future incidents.
The Rabbi was on Fox News yesterday talking about it and said that all of the attacks have been by blacks. As soon as he said it they “lost” the feed. Cuomo was on this morning talking about hate crimes against everybody but whites and made it sound like it’s all Trump’s fault and the criminals are Trump supporters. That’s how it sounded to me anyway.
“My impression is that most of these attacks are from foreign born persons...”
Brooklyn is foreign?
Right. Guests on The View and Ellen would be in tears having to describe the killer's attempts to cope with a white racist America while turning his life around. The victims made no attempt to inquire about the killer's feelings about his childhood influences. So uncaring of them./s
I believe Monsey voted 90% Trump.
I didnt say Orthodox Jews (Or Hasidic if that is different).
Thank Goodness for them.
But could the world really endure a Jewish George Zimmerman?
“Without the Jewish vote, creeps like Cuomo and DiBlasio couldnt get elected”
That’s true. In the 1990s, NYC’s Jewish community had enough with Leftists (General Dinkins back then), and so held their noses, but supported Rudy. 20 years later, they figured (I guess) that the days of black-on-Jew violence was over.
I guess they were wrong.
“Would somebody please explain anti-Semitism to me?”
After years of wondering why Anti-Semitism exists, I honestly don’t know.
There was the medieval blood libel that the Jews killed Christ. Only a few fanatics believe that now.
The Nazis villified Jews for controlling the banks and the department stores. Then why persecute ordinary Jews who were not powerful? To this day the belief persists among some that Jews control world finance & communications a la Rothschilds.
Then there’s the state of Israel, that has punched way above its weight for over seventy years. Made plenty of enemies.
Currently, and in my opinion, today’s rash of antisemitic attacks originate from the “religion of peace” /s.
Hatred of Jews is hardwired into Islam, the Koran, and a majority of Muslims. It gains much horsepower through petrodollar financing not only of terrorism but dissemination of Islamic propaganda all over the world including here in the U.S.
An indicator of its influence here is media reluctance to name the perpetrators of antisemitic crimes, in the name of political correctness. If a nutcase of any religion other than Islam assaults Jews, his identity is blared tot he heavens. If the attacker is Muslim, then it’s hush-hush.
That’s my short answer.
Careless of them./s
The perpetrators can run but they can't hide. There is no justification for letting child-like liberals of any color or ethnic background think they can be condoned for attacking Trump supporters or others. Coddled morons think they have a right to attack Deplorables. They saw it on TV.
No matter what the media censors, neighbors and relatives and acquaintances of victims all over America tell each other the truth.
Of the 24% of Jews who voted for Trump in 2016, a huge amount are Orthodox Jews---as the victims in the latest incidents. "Cultural Jews" (Hollywood producers,TV stars, recording stars, comedians) are not that type and not for Trump. Reform and other Jews usually--not always--are anti-Trump.
I think Monsey where this happened voted 90% Trump.
Apparently he was also arrested for punching a police horse in the past.
Every church and synagogue needs to arm up and be prepared to kill the worthless bastards who commit these atrocities.
Our pastor asked my wife and I to carry during services. He now locks the church doors once the service begins. We are next to a university campus with the usual cohort of MSA, BDS, Trump haters, and other nutjobs. Tucked into an alleyway, our church makes us “sitting ducks”, as he put it.
