Agree, Iran is genuinely afraid of what Trump might do. And I would add that the message to the proxies not to attack is also intended as a message to President Trump that if the proxies do anything, then they are acting independently as rogue elements.

They missed doing any real damage as intended. They can lie to their people about killing our guys while at the same avoid giving Trump the cover he needs to really let the dogs out. The Mullahs are crazy but not idiots. They can also see the almost unbelievable help they are getting from US “News” media and the DNC.

Isn’t Soliemani Iran’s go to terrorist responsible for exacting revenge on the Great Satan when the US takes action against Iran’s terrorism? Where was he during the attack show last night? Oh, that’s right, he was indisposed at that moment. The only person as releived as Trump that little damage occurred during the attack was the Ayotollah who produced this piece of theater for the benefit of the folks at the terror mosque back home. He had to be fearful of what would happen if it was perceived as anything more than an empty gesture, much like the show put on by a dog wagging former impeached president of the Great Satan. Unlike Clinton, Trump has no dog to wag during his impeachment because for him killing Soliemani was a mere distraction from his enjoyable view of the Democrats flagellating themselves like Shia religious fanatics with the impeachment whip they hung around their necks like an albatross and couldn’t figure out what to do with when they started choking from it.

Not benign but likely they did not want to cross the red line of killing Americans - they know the response will be swift and lethal - along with taking out a lot of infrastructure....they’ll be eating their camels by candlelight if they aren’t careful and they hate the taste of camel meat....reminds them of their women after spending a lifetime in a Burka..

A valid act of deterrence, for example, would be to plant a Hellfire missile 500 yards ahead of Soleimani’s car, to demonstrate the capability and act as a warning. The moment the missile hits the car, it no longer is deterrence or denial, but a decapitation strike.

It depends. If you are trying to deter the person in the car, then the above makes sense. On the other hand, if you are trying to deter something more than the individual in the car, like an entire regime, then taking the car and passengers out is a decapitation of the people in the car, but a deterrence to the regime. In this case, I think it was the latter.

With faces like those Ayatollahs why would they want to save them?

A Face-Saving Gesture from the Ayatollahs

I suspect it was too and I'm OK with that since no deaths or injuries occurred. The Ayatolla is now on notice and I suspect we're also going to see a cease of nonsense in the Persian Gulf......

There's another thread here where someone posted a link to some Israeli think tank. That was a great read and very intuitive about what the death of Salami really means to Iran's terrorist network.

If someone took a shot at me, I would kill them back.
I do not believe the Iranians have that much control where their missiles hit. They tried to kill more Americans but failed to do so. Kill the Iranian leaders and destroy their nuclear facilities and be done with this.

Pres. Trump’s speech today indicated he and our military saw this strike by Iran was a show to appease their home audience, not an escalation that our US needed to go to war over. Pres. Trump is adding more sanctions, instead of a military response. He is doing what needs to be done, not a rush to war.

Part of the early warning system was Iran calling us.

The author is exercising a logical fallacy.

He is assuming war with Iran necessarily puts US military on Iranian soil.

Our actions could be limited to removing Iran’s capability to make war. And to crush them economically.

With an eye toward full containment. By policy.

But not the naive “fix them” nation building of the Neocons.

I read here the other day about a news items saying the rockets were “raining down” on our position. The frigging media feels so invincible, they can knowingly put out propaganda like that and not get hammered.

You should know that you can’t believe everything you read. Especially from the drive-by media
