Something to consider: The senators all know Trump knows where all their skeletons are buried. They also know Trump will release it all if things go sideways. This will keep many senators' votes in line. Book it.
I hope he does have leverage to prevent any messy Roman Senate style surprises. They'd be stupid to stop his winning, but politicians can be shockingly stupid and corrupt.

There are MANY constitutional scholars that say that he isn’t impeached until the articles of impeachment are submitted to the Senate. And if Pelosi delays enough, McConnell and the GOP will change the rules to allow a “trial” without formal submission and then vote to dismiss the charges. So Trump isn’t truly impeached and liberal heads explode. Win-win!
