You recuse yourself from the proceedings so you don't become witness your own case

Mr. Ciamerella, when and how many times did you meet with Mr. Schiff’s staff? With Mr Schiff himself? Did you see the version of the whistleblower form that said first hand knowledge was required? Did you talk about that to Mr Schiff’s staff?

IG Atkinson, when was the form changed? Who authorized the change? Why was the change undertaken? Who pointed out that the form went above the statute?
