The Rochester Americans are getting ready for their first-ever Pride Night this week.

For Friday’s game against Cleveland, Amerks fans will be able to purchase pride packs to help benefit the Out Alliance.

We’re joined by Suzie Cool, Multimedia Journalist and In-Arena Host from the Amerks, as well as Tamara Leigh, Director of Operations & Public Relations for the Out Alliance to talk about Friday’s event.

TOPICS: Culture/Society; US: New York
KEYWORDS: chat; hockey; homosexual; localnews; newyork; sports; woke
Watched as the cameras tried to steer clear of the nearly empty Blue Cross Arena.

Get woke, go broke.

My brother is probably rolling over in his grave. We grew up in Rochester, and he was an Amerks fan. Had season tickets.

I used to go on our company night with my two, at the time, young children when they played the Hershey Bears or Syracuse Crunch. Sad.

Wasn’t Don Cherry the coach of the Rochester Americans back in the day? Before he was coach of the Boston Bruins? He must be rolling over in his grave, except that he is still alive!

I too had season tickets for years. We followed the team to playoff games too. I do not know what I would do today!
I left Rochester 30 years ago for sunny Florida and no more hockey.

Rochester-Americans?

Is that like Polish-Americans or Italian-Americans?

Are Rochester-Americans another impoverished and oppressed minority group? Maybe Bloomberg can propose a program to help the Rochester-Americans.

What percent of Floridians are former NYers? Has anyone ever done a study?

Just curious.

Glad you got out of the cold!!

“Ah we just want to come out of the closet, and be accepted.

We don’t want to cause any trouble.”

Sex with the same sex, is ALL these people seem to think about seemingly 100% of the time.

Shut up already. Live your life any way you want, but quit trying to sell it to everyone else.

I’ve got no animosity against homosexuals. I’m just tired of hearing about it 24/7/365.

Were you born there? I was born at the old General Hospital, and grew up on Immel Street, near Jay and Ames in Rochester. The Mt. Read Blvd. bus stopped near our street. I went to #21 School on Colvin Street, and graduated from Madison High School in 1965. Moved away in 1972. All my family is gone except for my brother’s widow who now lives in Ontario, NY. They used to live on Colvin Street, right across from #21 School, which was turned into senior citizen apartments many years ago.

Highland hospital I think. Maybe rural Scottsville until 2 then Alvin Place off East Avenue near # 23 school which my father attended. We moved to Brighton before I was school age and stayed there. I taught school in Brighton and married a Pittsford boy and raised our family in Webster. We stayed there about 30 years until medical issues forced an early retirement on the coast of eastern Florida. Almost 30 years here but over 20 as a widow. Long good life!

Good question. There are a lot of NewYork people from downstate but seldom meet people from above NY City and Long Island. Few are from Finger Lakes area. I think the West Coast might be a different balance from Tampa south to Naples.

My Grandfather, and an uncle are buried at Webster Rural Cemetery. As I mentioned, my brother’s family lives in Ontario, just off Ridge Road...a hop, skip, and a jump from Webster.

I worked for the County on Westfall Road. I started with Children’s Services right out of high school when they were still on South Avenue. We used to go to lunch at a restaurant in Brighton (12 Corners)...and we used to eat at Don & Bob’s regularly. After I moved away, and when I came back to visit, I always took my kids to Don & Bob’s, and I’d buy a quart of hot sauce, and bring it home with me. Years ago my sister found the recipe for it in the Democrat & Chronicle, and sent it to me. I still make it.

We always ate Zweigle’s Hots, which were what Don & Bob’s served. Nobody around here has heard of them, and nobody carries them. My oldest son likes the pop-open white hots, and I can get those at the Wegman’s in Fayetteville, that’s only about an hour away. I prefer their skinless Texas red hots to eat with the hot sauce, but if I want those, I have to get them when I visit my sister-in-law. The Tops grocery store at the corner of her street carries them.

I’ve been divorced since ‘79, and raised my two sons alone. Never remarried. I have a cousin who lives in Palatka, Florida. She and her husband were high school sweethearts, married and moved to Florida. I hope you continue to have a long, and happy life. Thanks for chatting.
