A more likely explanation is that his reputation for being “sharp and competent” was bullsh!t. That guy was about as sharp as a marble in his Congressional testimony.
It was an act. His answer to the Fusion GPS question went far beyond his thespian abilities. I doubled over in laughter after hearing that one. And he said it with a straight face. LOL.
