Pa. House Speaker Turzai will not run for reelection

One of Pennsylvania’s most powerful Republicans will not run for reelection this fall. House Speaker Mike Turzai broke the news in an emotional speech Thursday morning at an event in his Allegheny County District. Before an audience that included his family and political supporters, Turzai said he plans to serve out his term, and suggested there might be opportunities in the private sector awaiting him. Turzai, 60, started his career as a prosecutor in Allegheny County. He won his state House seat nearly two decades ago, after losing his first run for office, a 1998 congressional bid, in a landslide. He rose to Speaker five years ago, presiding over a strong Republican majority and forcefully promoting a fiscally and socially conservative agenda. He is perhaps best known for his staunch support of the natural gas drillers and opposition to taxes on the industry– an association he said he is proud of.

Turzai is also a staunch abortion opponent. This is a huge loss. I am kinda bummed by this. I don't know why everyone is leaving government. I mean I know it isn't the great job in the World, but we need people like this guy especially.

It is a bit of a stretch especially for Pennsylvania. I guess I was more of a supporter of his abortion stance. I know somehow the gas tax went through....not sure how much he had to do with it. I no longer live in Pennsylvania so I don’t follow the issues as closely as I did at one time.

So disgusted by the entire GOP party. We see how much of a geriatric facility the Senate is. I mean last night watching the Senators, I could swear I was visiting an assisted living facility or a community center in The Villages in Florida. It is ridiculous and the Democrats are the majority who are ancient. Heck Feinstein had to go home she was so tired and bored long before it was over.

Turzai appears to be a PA State Rep.

Yep in Upstate NY they are fleeing like scared rabbits. Senator Kolb ran a state vehicle into a ditch in front of his own house on NYE and received a DWI. I remember Susan John a DemonRat who was constantly getting DWIs and no one batted an eyelash.

Chris Collins was given 26 months because he revealed that a pharmaceutical failed to meet expectations so his son? dumped the stock in advance. They call that “insider trading” despite decades of a 1000 times worse by Nancy Pelousi and her ilk. And Killary with her pork bellies in the 90s. Rich Funke is also jumping ship.

Yeah, and did you guys see that video of Chuck Schumer? He goes to an empty chair and is talking to it and makes a motion like - Get out of my chair - then he sits down in it. Unreal! Scroll part way down - the one with him sitting in a chair. Here's the link:

Well, I didn’t understand your post, since we don’t have to ‘win back’ the PA State House. Maybe I misunderstood...

Mike Turzai was THE BIG GUN in political fundraising for PA House Republicans. The House R’s will have trouble filling the hole created by his absence and that means it will be more difficult to hold on to the majority. Legislative campaigns run on money and less money means fewer successful Republican House candidates.
