Yes. One of my ancestors was born in Texas during the Republic.
The first foreign branch of Texas A&M University was in Israel, under the administration of Governor Rick Perry.
Forrest Carter wrote 4 great books.
Gone to Texas is better known by it’s movie name ‘The Outkaw Josey Wales”.
Just is good is the second book, “ The Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales”.
It opens in the small bar/store the first one ends in, about ten years after the first book ends. when 100 mexican troops pursuing apaches ride into town. They proceed to get drunk, shoot up the town, and mess with the bar floozies. As it gets out of town the local gambler tries to intervene and is shot down by the mexican troops. As he dies the Mexican Captain walks up to him yelling “ why are you smiling gringo, you are dying, you’re a dead man.” The gamblers response “ I’m a friend of Josie Wales”. The rest of the book covers Josie’s discovery of the massacre and his pursuit of the Mexican Calvary company. It’s the people of Texas, a long tradition of what’s right and fair play. Also their’s just some evil people who need killing so good people can live their lives.
