Like Laredo City Council last week, Webb County Commissioners Court on Monday will be approached by the federal government as they attempt to fast-track construction of President Trumps border wall...
Government officials told the city that Congress recent $1.3 billion appropriation for the border wall has funded 52 miles of barrier in Webb County and 18 miles in Zapata County, which is essentially the span from the Colombia Solidarity Bridge to San Ygnacio.
They have been granted the right of entry by about 40% of the affected landowners they have reached out to in the Laredo area, said Paul Enriquez, the director of the Border Wall Management Program in Washington, D.C.

The Trump Administration has already contracted to substantially finish building the wall from the Gulf of Mexico, up river to Falcon Lake (150 miles, with some small gaps left by Congressional mandate). This year's appropriation will pick up on the North edge of Falcon Lake, and build North through the City of Laredo, to meet up with another 52 mile segment (funded out of last year's Military Construction money, but not yet on contract).
After these segments, there is only about 100 miles left to extend the Wall all the way up to Lake Amistad/Box Canyon, through Del Rio and Eagle Pass. That would complete the main job that is needed in Texas. I am guessing that last 100 miles will largely be built with this year's Military funds.
It’s not been easy, but I am grateful for the work Trump and his administration have put in on this effort.
Then again, the advantage of building even a “slotted wall” (with gaps where an owner refuses to cooperate): The illegals will walk though the gaps, leaving the protected areas behind the wall alone and letting the cops to focus on the walkways through.
