Former National Security Advisor John Bolton and his book publisher are denying they coordinated with journalists to leak a copy of his forthcoming book, which contains an allegation that President Donald Trump confessed to stalling Ukraine aid to force investigation of Joe and Hunter Biden.
The disclosure of that claim in a Bolton book manuscript whose details were leaked to the New York Times boosted Democratic hopes to call witnesses in Trump’s impeachment trial. Trump denied the reported claim.
A statement distributed by longtime Bolton aide Sarah Tinsley denied any “coordination” in releasing the claim.

Bolton submitted it in December meaning Trump has known what’s in it for quite a while. So it’s not like this is a last second reveal by Bolton. Nor should it have been unexpected that Vinman’s brother would leak it and the NYT would trumpet the leak. I’m reserving some hope that this Bolton book thing is indeed some kind of trap for the Dems. I could imagine the book hitting in March and flatly contradicting the Dem accusations on Trump/Ukraine. How would that play now that the Dems have declared the book the “smoking gun”?
And what if it coincided with Graham’s committee hearings exposing Biden corruption in Ukraine (assuming Graham follows through)? And what if that coincided with the rollout of the Barr/Durham investigation exposing deep state corruption? I could see this all snowballing together in kind of a nice way.
It will hopefully duplicate itself with the Trump lawyers, who yesterday, opened the book on Joe and Hunter Biden, Obama, and a whole host of other characters who now do not need to be called to testify, as they just took the wind out of their sails by showing their guilt in the Senate.
I hope that they systematically disassemble John Bolton’s narrative with facts too substantial, and so well documented that it achieves 2 things.
1. John Bolton does not NEED to testify, as everything that he would say has not been proven to be a lie, in the Senate record.
2. This adversely affects book sales and ruins his chances at employment in Washington DC for at least the next 4 years.
If a White House janitor claimed that he overheard somebody in the bathroom say he didn’t agree with Trump’s policies they would give the janitor a book deal and say he was a “White House source.”
Isn’t that the truth.
If he could prove Trump used red toilet paper, it would be a sure fire connection to Russia.

It changes the spin angle. Rush handled it pretty well, but Chuck is chanting “cover-up” now. And if they yield and vote for witnesses, then it’s a never-ending circus, unless the witnesses from Ukraine show up, either on Giuliani’s touted podcast, or much better, in the Senate chamber, right after Joe and Hunter finish lying and pleading the 5th.

This is Bolton’s swan song. He will never again be tapped for a job by the US Government, either for the GOP or the Sleazy Democrats.
Bolton just screwed himself royally by not protecting his former employer. No one will ever trust him again.

5am thoughts — Wednesday 29 Jan 2020 - Democrat Senators seem to need 4 Republican Senators to ignore the overwhelming evidence that this impeachment “trial” has been nothing but a futile attempt to call witness after witness after witness after witness to keep making the same arguments over and over and over again —. In my not so humble opinion they need to just end this trial today. Up or down vote to convict President Trump on the charges brought forth by the House —- period. My guess is —. If they do this today the House simply failed to meet their burden of proof. There is no reason to keep this kabuki theatre going just to see what new evidence they can come up with to support the same opinion over and over again. I suspect that no matter how many witnesses come forward it will make no substantial difference to their case —. But it will serve to drag it out longer. Which apparently IS the goal. Sadly.
If those House wants to open up a NEW case and resume hearings etc etc etc. Let them do so — the Democrats have the majority in that chamber and can keep those hearings going all way to November. But please DO NOT —. I repeat DO NOT allow this Kabuki Dance to continue beyond today.
Concur. When you serve as an ADVISOR the confidential advice that you provide to your boss should never ever ever be the subject of forced testimony. This is akin to a prosecutor calling the defense lawyer to the stand in a criminal case against his client and forcing the attorney to testify as to what advice he or she gave his client BEFORE all the facts of the case were presented. Assume that a defense lawyer BELIEVES at first that his client is GUILTY of the charges and advises his client to accept a plea deal being offered by the prosecutor. Then later discovers that his client is In fact INNOCENT of the charges but can’t help his client because his client FIRED him. Can you imagine the outrage of the prosecutor calls that attorney and asks him if he thought his client was GUILTY at first —. The attorney answrs yes — and then the prosecutor rests his case refusing to provide the exculpatory evidence to the new lawyer.
This analogy seems far fetched but it is exactly what appears to be going on in this impeachment trial. We need to end this Kabuki Theatre today with an up or down vote. The only question that all 100 senators need to ask themselves is DID the House managers meet their burden of proof to convict —. As with any jury member. It is not up to the defense to prove their innocence of the charges —. Although I think this defense team did exactly that but I digress.
If the prosecution did not meet its burden of proof BEYOND a reasonable doubt —. Then the jury MUST acquit.
If the house wishes to reopen their investigation in the committees of jurisdiction and pursue NEW articles of impeachment they are free to so however comma that would likely result in the American People viewing them as “sore losers”.
