Some Senators like Romney are out for the spotlight and to make Trump squirm. Some like Collins are in tight races for reelection and some like Murkowski are are just butt azzed stupid.

Trump should immediately declassify the manuscript

I think one or both of the Vindman brothers is working on that, so a simple DJT phone call should make that happen.

The six Dem senators who are running for President must recuse themselves on account of their blatant conflict of interest. If they will not recuse themselves, then the Senate should disqualify them from voting.

Dems know that Trump will not be removed from office. They are using impeachment to try to flip senate seats by making shaky R senators vote on controversial motions. Disqualifying Dems on votes helps them retake the senate.

Looks like impeachment is a different animal - because the VP is tied at the hip to the guy being impeached...

Not when the Constitution was written. The VP was the one that came in second place in the electoral count. This is how Aaron Burr became Jefferson's VP.It was changed by the 12th amedment in 1804. It seems to me that the impeachment clause was written with that in mind...that the VP likely would be opposed to the President.

It seems to me that the VP only loses the ability to preside in a presidential impeachment and is replaced by the CJ to preside. I don't see where the VP loses his vote in an impeachment as he is still the President of the Senate. The CJ is given a role to preside, but he isn't made the interim President of the Senate...he's still the officer of another branch of government. The Constitution says the President of the Senate (VP) has a vote in ties.

During the impeachment of Andrew Johnson, CJ Chase cast votes and also made rulings. He probably was overreaching on the vote issue, but then Johnson had no Vice President as the office was vacant and no means to fill it.

This Vice President is constitutionally the President of the Senate and would be asked to cast a vote only in the event of a 50/50 split.

The VP was not sworn in as the jury in the impeachment trial. He would not be allowed to participate in any way, including breaking a 50-50 tie.

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., privately said early Tuesday that he wasn’t sure there were enough Republican votes to block more witnesses”

even FNC continues to promote the shibboleth of the “private” McConnell conversation originally published ONLY by the NYT based on a single anonymous source ... in other words, all of this Sturm und Drang about “not enough votes” is merely a RUMOR!

“a Senate leadership source”

now we have FNC publishing it’s OWN fake news rumors based on a SINGLE anonymous source ...

I don't see where the VP loses his vote in an impeachment as he is still the President of the Senate.

Because he wasn't sworn in as a jurist in the impeachment trial, the way the Senators were.

Therefore, he can't participate.

... and insist NO WITNESSES be called unless they include both Bidens, the fake whistleblower, and Schiff...

Amen to that...

Disqualifying Dems on votes helps them retake the senate.

I can't follow the reasoning on that.

I would think Joe Manchin and Doug Jones would be more worried about taking a position than any Republican.

Only the stupidest of “Republicans” would break OFF to vote against acquittal-— and not the much smarter “want to keep their office” democrat colleagues who will vote to acquit.

The “repubs” in question are scared of Trump’s outing their crminal behaviour.... people like Romney— the lying scum.

Sort of like Graham saying he has worked out a “deal” on Red Flag laws— with that scum of the earth Blumenthal (dumber than a sack of rocks, and inveterate liar— Mr. Viet Nam vet- Not!).

A 50/50 vote would be a “not passed” action. They need 51 to pass a vote on something.

Why are we still making deals with the devil? We don’t need to. Vote now. They dont have 2/3 to impeach

>> Fox News and the rest of you have forgotten that it takes two thirds, 66 votes, of the Senate to convict.

I don’t think that’s lost on anyone (with a brain)

The current irritant is the witness factor, the ongoing slander, the virtual imprisonment of Trump.

Romney, Collins, & Murky seem to be enjoying the abuse and are effectively contributing to it. And I agree with kevao that McConnell has the ability to keep them in line.
