The Democrat game plan since the impeachment vote was to smear the Senate. In a way, the witness story was a win-win for them. If there are no witnesses, they go with the cover-up smear. With witnesses, they would smear them for not hearing enough witnesses.

What they don't realize is that only their hard-core supporters care. And they aren't voting for any GOP Senators anyway.

By Labor Day, no one will care about the nuances of impeachment. Heck, they might not even care by St. Patrick's Day.
