Alexander Statement on Impeachment Witness Vote (he's a no)
www.alexander.senate.gov ^ | 1/30/2020 | Senator Lamar Alexander

Posted on 01/30/2020 8:07:35 PM PST by CaptainK

“There is no need for more evidence to prove that the president asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter; he said this on television on October 3, 2019, and during his July 25, 2019, telephone call with the president of Ukraine. There is no need for more evidence to conclude that the president withheld United States aid, at least in part, to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens; the House managers have proved this with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’ There is no need to consider further the frivolous second article of impeachment that would remove the president for asserting his constitutional prerogative to protect confidential conversations with his close advisers.

It’s up to Roberts whether he votes or not.

He meant to say acquitted, purely a slip of the tongue. I bet he feels awful.

51-49. With three, its 50-50 and fails.

hat will set up the acquittal vote which should pass easily.

50-50? That's insanely close. Kind of worse than I expected, even though Trump will get an acquittal.

Scott made a hostage video asking people to rescue him from the milk and water torture of being stuck in the trial. He won’t be prolonging this farce.

I think the weakest article is 2. Its going to go down. Article 1 will be defeated along party lines.

Tell that to all of the constitutional scholars who’ve said the Chief Justice breaks ties in an Impeachment trial.

On the witness vote.

I expect the President to be acquitted on both articles sometime tomorrow night.

Watch the Dems try to change the rules so that a tie is unacceptable and votes must be taken until a majority is reached.

I'll bet you're right. This vote is disappointing. WAY too close for my comfort. Effin' POS Romney!! Utah should be ashamed. I miss Orrin Hatch.

Knew Lamar from boy’s state in 1974. I was a delegate and he was running for governor. An honorable man until he left the gov’s office, then he sold his soul to “stay in the game”. Started out a statesman, ending not as a GOPe, but as a DS Derp. Sad but true.

He still thinks enough of his “Legacy” to not be remembered as the traitor who tried to impeach an innocent President hence the “no” vote on witnesses, but his true spirit is in his statement of double-talk. He wants it both ways, he will be remembered with disdain among the people. He did learn at the feet of Howard Baker, another DS senator ( gave away the Panama Canal).

MAGA! WWG1WGA!.

Tell us who they are. Since that a complete fiction.

The US Senate draws up the rules for Impeachment. The Chief Justice does not decide the rules. The US Senate rule for Impeachment is a 50/50 tie is a fail.

Thank you!!! I kept wondering what happened with 50/50

Many were saying Roberts gets to vote

But it’s obvious from the Insanity on twitter from the left that they know it’s over!

Democrats should follow the Rodino rule and not rush through a half-baked partisan impeachment.

The Justice will declare whether the motion passes or not.

In the case of a tie THAT IS A VOTE!
