Murkowski comes out against impeachment witnesses, putting Trump on path to acquittal

Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski came out Friday against calling witnesses in President Trump’s impeachment trial, all but assuring the Senate will move to wrap up proceedings with a likely acquittal in a matter of days, if not hours.

“Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed,” said Murkowski, R-Alaska, a key moderate senator who has been closely watched on the witness question.

Trump was always going to be acquitted. The articles upon which impeachment is based are a bunch of garbage.

Good news. Roberts can’t claim the right to break a tie in favor of witnesses, citing the Andrew Johnson trial.

Haha! I said last night, Murkowski was a “no.” I saw the language confirming she had been taken to the woodshed by Cocaine Mitch.

Cocaine Mitch delivers again!

Her statement was actually one of the most mature and honest to come out of this whole process -

“I worked for a fair, honest, and transparent process, modeled after the Clinton trial, to provide ample time for both sides to present their cases, ask thoughtful questions, and determine whether we need more.

“The House chose to send articles of impeachment that are rushed and flawed. I carefully considered the need for additional witnesses and documents, to cure the shortcomings of its process, but ultimately decided that I will vote against considering motions to subpoena.

“Given the partisan nature of this impeachment from the very beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.

“It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another.

“We are sadly at a low point of division in this country.”

* And she’s the “fencesitter” ... gives you some idea about how the rest of the Senate Republicans felt

It's sad for me to admit, but for once I agree with linda mudcowsky.

I hate this F'en bitch, BUT, I will suspend my animosity for one full minute, when I watch her cast her vote to shove it up the demonRAT's collective asses.

After that minute, I will wish for her demise. There ain't no Christian love here, only years of hate, brought on from her selfish motives and traitorous actions.

Good. I can understand Collins decision. She is from a moderate State.
But Romney? He is just a Anti-Trump prick. When he is up for re-election
I hope Utah sends another GOP Senator to DC to replace him.

She lost her primary a few years back. The GOPe saved her bacon with a B.S. write-in campaign.

That fact makes me physically ill to this day. But it does give Mitch a very firm grasp of her shorthairs.

The Democrats should be thanking her. They need to end this and move on to helping the American People. With this virus the Democrats look like fools in DC.

McKowshits had no choice.

She’s up for re-election in 2022 and couldn’t possibly defend her NO vote on Kavanaugh AND a YES vote for witnesses.

The only campaign ad against McKowshits would have to be a continuous commercial of the picture of Feistein dominating the crap out of her.

Given that the end tally is no longer in doubt, I wonder how many vulnerable Dems will jump ship?

I expect Manchin, Jones and Sinema will be no votes.

Despite her bloviating I suspect DiFi ends up being a yea.

I think Manchin and/or Jones might even be given wink-and-a-nod permission to vote no on witnesses.
