I think it is the other way around. People congregate where there is food, they overpopulated, and begin to starve, then the lib politician comes along and promised free stuff, the people (sadly) vote for them, the libs take control...ever promising free things and no need to work. It is a perfect set up for liberal control. The alternative to free stuff is hard work to earn the stuff...that is the ideology of conservativesc. Who would vote to have to work when you can not not to?

Cities can easily devolve into huge cargo cults.

The infrastructure appeared out of nowhere, and politicians promise free stuff that appears out of nowhere.

The primitive human mind views this as magic, and worships the cargo!

When I was a kid in the '70s I once asked my dad: "Why are there so many crazy, drunk, criminal people downtown?"

We obviously didn't have that in our suburb, which wasn't far, but also wasn't fancy.

I wondered if living in a city *made* people so insane.

Or do freaks from all over just find their way there?

His theory was that lunatics flock to cities, because they CAN steal, do drugs, get drunk and for the most part get away with it.

That made sense as in my suburb there was probably one or two bums, and everyone knew them by name.

They mostly kept to themselves, and didn't really bother people.

It would be unthinkable for one of these unfortunate souls to pitch a tent outside City hall and start $hitting in the street.

In my small town, the cops would have run them off,and the mayor would have never allowed it.

Hell even in the "big city" of 1970s America, someone building a tent on the street wound be unthinkable.
