I’m Italian.

My gangster uncles in their 80s and 90s still kiss me on the lips sometimes.

It’s either a show of great respect or one night i’m gonna find a horse’s head in my bed.

Everybody kisses everybody hello at family parties.

NO ONE HAS EVER kissed a niece or granddaughter or anyone below 18 on the lips!!

And NO ONE touches other men’s women!

That’s my take too.

Even with my kids or younger family members, I’d kind of give a pseudo hug or kiss on the cheek or forehead.

If something terribly bad happened, I would give a big hug if it was called for to comfort.

As long as your uncles don’t say “you broke my heart” when they kiss you, you’re probably ok

But I probably wouldn’t go fishing with any of their “friends”, just to be sure

My grandpa and grandfather kissed me on the cheek or forehead. They would not have dreamed of mouth on mouth.

I hug my nephews now, 19 and 17, and my folks don’t kiss them. My dad doesn’t kiss my 9 y/o niece.

My family is mostly, I’m kind of a mutt, of Scandinavian heritage. A quick hug is as physical as we get. And that’s only for those to whom you are especially close. To see him kiss his granddaughter on the lips sends off alarm bells. Her unhesitating response freaks me out even more as it clearly is not an unusual occurrence. I sometimes wish we were more expressive or exuberant like Italians, but then I also like my bubble 😉.
