McConnell tees up five Trump judges after impeachment trial wraps
The Hill ^ | 02 05 2020 | Jordain Carney

With the weeks-long impeachment trial ending Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is wasting no time turning the chamber's focus back to his self-professed top priority: confirming judicial nominations.

McConnell teed up five judicial nominations for votes on the Senate floor as the chamber wrapped up its work for the week.

The Senate is expected to take its first procedural vote on the slate Monday evening, when Republicans will need a simple majority to end the debate on Andrew Brasher's nomination to be a judge on the Eleventh Circuit.

Once Brasher is confirmed, the Senate will turn to the nominations of Joshua Kindred, Matthew Schelp, Joshua Kness and Philip Halpern, all of whom have been picked to be U.S. district judges.

The Senate could easily fit all five nominations into its schedule for next week.

Under a rules change enacted last year, district court nominees only need an additional two hours of debate once they overcome an initial procedural hurdle.

The Senate has confirmed 187 judicial nominees for President Trump since he took office, including two Supreme Court picks.

If all five are confirmed, that would bring the total number of Trump judicial nominees confirmed since 2017 to 192.

You’d almost think he did a great job of holding Rs together during impeachment and making sure enough are on board for all of the judicial picks.

We know what he was. Maybe he still is.

Or maybe Trump’s had an effect on him.

Or maybe his wife in Trump’s cabinet (is that true?) has helped.

I don’t care. As long as he keeps on keeping on.

Long overdue.

Hillary, Brennan, Comey, to start. Then work down the list.

Gitmo - that tropical paradise just 90 miles off the coast of Florida - awaits, rooms available, cheap.

“Lock Her Up” - Not just a pretty campaign slogan; WE MEANT IT.

Nobody gets confirmed without mitch’s say so. My beliefs is that mcconnell has his own list of judges that he let Trump know only the people on that list can get confirmed. Same with Trump’s cabinet picks, that is why they have been so bad in many cases. mcconnell has also not put the senate in recess since Trump was sworn in, not once. This means Trump has never had the opportunity to make a recess appointment. Hope that clears it up for you.

You would almost think McConnell is pissed.

McConnell doesn’t like it when you f-— with Trump and his legacy, i’m not saying that’s how Mitch would pronounce it.

Replacing liberal judges is what they are. The president nominates judges.

Amen to that. I’m pretty tired of some of the vitriol directed at Sen. McConnell on these threads.

I’m not saying I’m an uncritical fan, but to compare him with RINO Ryan, as some have, is grossly unfair. Mitch picks his battles carefully and usually wins. He doesn’t have the star power of DJT — but who does?

I know some here would have liked a motion to dismiss immediately after the impeachment was received. But I have no doubt that allowing Nads and Schiffty to make fools of themselves certainly swayed some undecided voters and will continue to pay dividends through the election.

I didn’t see Clarence Thomas, I hope he’s okay.

I also didn’t see Ruth Buzzy or the Wise Latina. The latter two may have boycotted, but both have chronic serious health problems.

Wise Latina has SERIOUS problems with her type 1 diabetes. It wouldn’t surprise me if Ruth Buzzy outlived her.

Ah... I see.

You find the fact that judges have to be confirmed by the Senate sinister.

I am sorry, I am sure the founders would have done things differently if they had had your insight.

You're aware that most of the membership of The Federalist Society has been confirmed as judges in the Trump administration?

It's an actual QUESTION that the DemoNazis in the Senate interrogate potential judges with during the confirmation process.

It's why we're seeing a lot of 52-46 votes, instead of the 93-0 votes of the Zero & Dubya administrations.

How the DemocRATS must be cursing Harry Reid for going nuclear when it comes to confirming judges. Can you imagine how many more judges can be confirmed in the next five years if Republicans can keep the Senate?!
