CNN's Cascading Credibility Crisis
American Thinker.com ^ | February 7, 2020 | Daryl Austin

CNN is currently suffering a credibility crisis unlike anything they've experienced before. Last year, Business Insider reported that only 53% of American adults believe CNN is "credible," and among Republicans in particular, CNN's credibility has fallen "by nearly 20 percentage points since 2016."

One of CNN’s most famous "Facts First" ad campaigns shows a shiny red apple against a white backdrop as a voiceover posits the following:

“This is an apple. Some people might try to tell you that it’s a banana. They might scream banana banana banana over and over and over again. They might put BANANA in all caps. They might even start to believe that this is a banana, but it’s not. This is an apple.”

Claiming to value the facts first used to work for the once-proud network, but no longer.

There are, of course, scores of contributing factors and explanations that various people may have for mistrusting CNN. But my primary reason for no longer trusting the network comes down to the way network executives react whenever their journalists are caught behaving badly.

CNN host Don Lemon and two panelists openly mocking purportedly stupid Trump supporters last week provides one such example. Putting aside the blatant lack of journalistic objectivity and unprofessionalism displayed throughout the segment, the question of credibility still arises in its aftermath.

We can talk about how CNN and the MSM are all declining in ratings and credibility.

But look at the power they still wield in this nation. There are way too many people who take everything they say as gospel. Yeah, there’s always gonna be the fellow traveler types who gravitate to outlets like MSNBC and NBC - but there are a lot more low information voters that I’m worried about. Those are the people we gotta reach.

So you mean to tell us that CNN’s strategy of constantly lying about and mocking the Trump Administration and Republicans ISN’T gaining viewers’ respect?

Who could possibly have seen this coming??!

“This is a Lemon. Some people might try to tell you that he’s intelligent. They might scream smart smart smart over and over and over again. They might put SMART in all caps. They might even start to believe that Lemon is intelligent, but he’s not. He’s an idiot.”

BI is leftist rag. Note it is poll of Adults which always means a BS poll. So the actual number is much lower.

CNN still has an audience. There are millions of stupid liberals (deliberate redundance) who 1) aren't going to consult conservative news media and 2) aren't going to hear anything about CNN's credibility problems on .. CNN.

Therefore, stupid liberals will continue to patronize the Commie News Network.

I disagree. I don't think it is possible for CNN to have a credibility crisis - they have no credibility, none whatsoever, and haven't for years. I see it as impossible to have a crisis related to something that has been the status quo for that long.

CNN long ago lost all credibility when they lost any hint of objectivity. 20 years ago they were merely biased to severely biased. Once bammy came along, they basically turned into 24x7 leftist cheerleaders. Once President Trump was elected, they started running one story - hate Trump, 24x7, just repackaged in various guises. I'm pretty sure they couldn't even give a weather or traffic report without working in some anti-Trump spin.

CNN is by far the worse, but all alphabet media, the NYT and WaPo all have the same issue. One day there’s going to be a mass firing and realignment of the MSM if they are to survive. After all, it has a bottom line that they can’t forget. Will they commit business suicide—I think the bean counters will step in and correct the ship.
