Remember what happened to the Philippine economy when one Filipino leader (after Marcos/Aquino), threw the US Navy out of Subic Bay, etc? About 5,000 or more people lost their jobs, a volcano destroyed the whole area, and the US Navy essential never returned in any sizeable grouping.

I love the Filipino people. They are among the most friendly, kind, and pro-American people in the world. They suffered greatly for helping saving US servicemen during WW2, reprisals that equaled those of the Japanese against the Chinese people who aided downed American fliers, and German/Nazi reprisals against people in Europe who did the same.

However, they haven’t had a really great leader since Magsaysay. Marcos started out okay but became greedy and did a lot of harm to his country’s politics.

My prayers for the people of the Philippines. We are still behind your desires for true democracy and continued freedom.

Beware of Duterte’s paying with fire in his relations with Red China (who wants you as their next province) and Russia who wants naval bases in the South China Seas.

It is likely to blow over, as with so many of Dutertes pronouncements. This one is very unpopular.

Didn’t Duterte offer bounties to kill commies not long ago?
What the hell?

I love the Filipino people as well, bit their national pride is their downfall. Hit that and you can manipulate them into anything.

You left out the reasons for it. Some members of Congress and swamp creatures are helping the drug cartels, so they penalized some Filipino officials by revoking their visas and other measures.

Duterte is a hothead. He’s a very stubborn man and very prideful.
Additionally, he has had through his public life stated his affinity for Communism. And, stated through his public life an antipathy for Capitalism. He’s a true authoritarian. He’s a My Way or the Highway kind of guy and gives little thought to the possible consequences of his actions.
How do I know this? I lived in the Philippines for 9 years. Married to a UP graduate Filipina and, have a network of friends in addition to spousal family members in the
Philippines.
I saw this coming from a mile away. The visa denial of his friend and associate was just the excuse Duterte was waiting for the justify what he’s wanted to do for some time now.

You are a real nice person. Many people retired there decades ago. Many are just too old to be uprooted or have their income taken away.

Actually, that’s a very mean thing that will only hurt the expats.

Betcha when someone bullied you in high school you taught them a lesson by beating up their kid sister.

Think Hitler and commies. He’s just solidifying his power. He doesn’t like competition.

>> Why? Do you have any insight?

Most of my friends and relatives are Filipino. But Dutae can do no wrong for those in parts of the Visayas and most of Mindanao.

Dutae actually hates two groups of people more than Americans. He calls them Imperial Manila. He holds Luzon (except for Marcos-run areas) in extremely low regard. the other is the church.

Dutae wants the Philippines to revert to Chinese, Indian and Muslim control that was common prior to Spain and the United States.

Duterte: Communism Is a ‘Rotten Ideology’ Leading to ‘Mass Insanity’
Breitbart
FRANCES MARTEL
22 Jan 2019
"Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte condemned the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) as violent, hopeless, and insane...he would instead create a special police unit appointed to find, disarm, and kill violent communist terrorists...By February 2018, Duterte was offering civilians a bounty for killing communists and urging soldiers to shoot female communists “in the vagina” to make them 'useless.'"

Jet-ski Dutae is still pissed after the US denied his visit visa decades ago. Almost from day 1, he was slamming the US and sucking (up to) Winnie Xi Pooh. Obummer has a lot to do with it...

The ChiComs are Dutae’s Fentanyl supplier. 100% of all drugs in the Philippines come from Communist China.

Lots of Communist Chinese Shabu (Meth) labs and shipments to the Philippines. Filipinos drug users die, while the Communist Chinese drug pushers amazingly escape back to China.

FAVA picknick will be interesting this month. Yes it will. So what’s your solution? Continue to pour money into a country turning to the enemy?
